Lol, it's just like their injury updates. Secrecy is of the utmost priority.

Default Second Avalanche player tests positive for COVID-19

DENVER — Just two days after announcing that one of its players had recovered after contracting COVID-19, the Colorado Avalanche shared on Saturday that another player has tested positive for the virus.

The Avalanche said in the release that the player is in self-isolation.

The statement reads: "All other Avalanche players, staff and others who might have had close contact with the player have been informed and remain isolated as per prior League direction and are monitoring their health and will be in touch with Club medical staff as necessary. No other Avalanche player or staff member has shown symptoms at this time."

Default NHL return-to-play proposal would give Avalanche shot at West’s No. 1 playoff seed, report says

The NHL and NHL Players’ Association have developed a return-to-play plan that goes from some kind of training camp into a 24-team playoff, leaving seven teams not returning for the 2019-20 season, according to a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The final agreement is expected to come when the league and union finalize hub locations where the playoffs will unfold without fans. It remains unknown exactly when play would resume.

The Western Conference’s top four seeds will be based on points percentage — not divisional standing. That would make St. Louis, Colorado, Vegas and Dallas the top four seeds. In the Eastern Conference, the top four seeds would be Boston, Tampa Bay, Washington and Philadelphia.

Default Avalanche Begins Phase 2 Skates

Members of the Colorado Avalanche took the ice at Pepsi Center on Monday for the first time since March 11 as part of Phase 2 of the NHL's Return to Play Plan.

The players were split into two groups, and some of the players that took part in the voluntary skates were forwards Joonas Donskoi, Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon, defenseman Ian Cole and goaltender Philipp Grubauer.

Cole, Donskoi and Grubauer have been in Denver since the league paused on March 12 due to concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic while MacKinnon and Landeskog elected to quarantine in Canada after the NHL allowed players to leave their playing cities while waiting for the season to resume.

I am ready for Hockey to be back at it, in any form. Hopefully the Avs can finish what they started.

Default Nathan MacKinnon back with preferred wingers as Avalanche begins training camp

For the first time since Feb. 17, Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon had his two preferred wingers on the flanks Monday in Day 1 of training camp for the NHL’s return-to-play, 24-team playoffs.

In a perfect world, this is the Avs’ perfect line in working toward winning the Stanley Cup.

MacKinnon has skated with fellow 2018-19 All-Stars Gabe Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen in players-only captains skates during the past month. But Monday’s line was made by coach Jared Bednar, who was missing a handful of key injured players — including MacKinnon and Rantanen — when the NHL suspended play March 12 because of the coronavirus.

Bednar was unable to put the “MGM Line” together far too often this season, because of injuries to those three players or others, which forced the coach to balance his lines.

Default Avalanche mixing things up on top line

DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche's top line has been anything but stable this year.

But when everyone's healthy, you can typically count on the three usual suspects (Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen) to be in the opening face-off circle.

So when the captain traded in his signature blue practice sweater for a second-line white, it begged the question: Why?

"I think we know what we've seen here and what we've had here in the past with Landy, Mac, and Mikko. They're a real good line together," head coach Jared Bednar said.

Default Nathan MacKinnon named Hart Trophy finalist along with Rangers’ Artemi Panarin, Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl

If everything works out for Nathan MacKinnon this summer, the Avalanche star could very well score a hat trick off the ice.

MacKinnon was named one of three finalists for the Hart Trophy, given to the NHL MVP by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association, on Tuesday morning. It’s the third postseason award the 24-year-old center is now a finalist for, including the Lady Byng and Ted Lindsay trophies, that latter of which is given to “the most outstanding player.”

The other Hart Trophy finalists are Edmonton center Leon Draisaitl and New York Rangers winger Artemi Panarin.

Default Makar, MacKinnon return to Avs practice Saturday

DENVER — It was a sight of relief for Colorado Avalanche fans.

After a week-long absence, defenseman Cale Makar returned to the ice for his first practice with the team on Saturday morning. Makar, however, did wear the red sweater marking him as non-contact from other players.

Last week, Makar was called "unfit to practice" by head coach Jared Bednar for reasons not disclosed by the team.

Saturday was Colorado's final practice at Pepsi Center before heading to Edmonton for the NHL restart.

"I think the guys are really excited. I really liked their energy out there today," Bednar said. "Guys know it's our last skate before we jump on a plane tomorrow and head to Edmonton. Pretty successful camp."
