Patrick Roy quit. I would have loved to see that scene. He says he wasn't given enough control. Fight between Roy and Sakic.

Meh - the experiment seemed to be failing anyway. I don't think the players responded to his style.

players only respond to a screamer for so long and then it falls on deaf ears. Same reason the Flames let go of Hartley

Default In stunning move, Patrick Roy quits as Colorado Avalanche coach

Saying he didn’t believe had enough input in player personnel decisions, Patrick Roy Thursday announced he was resigning as head coach and vice president of hockey operations for the Avalanche.

Roy issued a statement, noting that for three years he had “carried out my duties … with energy, passion and determination.”

He added: “I have thought long and hard over the course of the summer about how I might improve this team to give it the depth it needs and bring it to a higher level. To achieve this, the vision of the coach and VP-Hockey Operations needs to be perfectly aligned with that of the organization. He must also have a say in the decisions that impact the team’s performance. These conditions are not currently met.

“Today, I am informing you of my decision to leave the Colorado Avalanche organization. Though it saddens me, I have put much thought about this decision in recent weeks and have come to be fully comfortable with it.

“I am grateful to the Colorado Avalanche organization, with which I remain in good terms, for letting me lead this great team. I thank all the players I have had the pleasure of coaching and the fans for their unwavering, unconditional support.

“I remain forever loyal to the Avalanche with which I played 478 games, coached another 253, and won two Stanley Cups.”

I don't blame him, if he did not have a say in decisions being made. To me, that is more of someone wanting just a coach figure, rather than a coach.

Eric Johnson is talking with Vic now, and said at least 90% of the players loved "Patty", they are all super upset, etc. Here is Eric talking now http://player.listenlive.co/48751

Hmm, interesting. I wonder how much Johnson really speaks for everyone. Maybe they all did like him and this is a bigger loss than I thought...

I was just thinking based on performance and how Roy has a proclivity for calling guys out in the media that maybe his style wore on the locker room. Will be interesting to read the fallout and post mortem that will inevitably come out.

His reasoning to leave in his press release is going to cause internal problems.

they may have liked him but even if they didn't, what is he going to say? I mean the Broncos players said they liked McDouche

Right, that's why I'm sort of skeptical. Outgoing coaches always have some players who are willing to carry their water.

Maybe he was tired of Drafting a Center each and every year in the first round when we need a gawd damn defensemen! Or maybe sign some defense. Now after what theyve done we got shit from the Ror trade. JT comph can be the only savior of it.
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

You would have needed to hear exactly what Eric said. He was, in no way, baited to say what he did

Johnson says 90% of the guys "absolutely loved playing for Patty" ... "I'm mad at myself. If we'd played better, he'd still be coach of Avs"

well a player of Roy's caliber would definitely have players respect, so maybe they really liked him. If that's the case, it's too bad they didn't let him have a little more say in the direction they were headed.
