I expect us to be a borderline playoff team. With our schedule, our improvements may not be evident on our record. I think we pick between 18 and 26. We NEED LBs. BAD. I know Safety is a concern, but Carter is still promising and Champ could make a move over in the secondary at some point.
ROUND 1
JOHNTHAN BANKS, CB, Mississippi State
As much as we need a MLB, the pick has to be CB here if Banks makes it to us. Although he seems like he'll last forever, Champ is elderly and may need to be moved to Safety soon much like Charles Woodson...actually not a bad problem to have in today's pass happy NFL.
ROUND 2
WILLIAM GHOLSTON, DE, Michigan State
This may be a reach for him to fall here, but this should be a very good DE class. I like Gholston's size opposite Doom. Most DEs in this draft are in the 255-265 range and I like beef opposite our lighter DE.
ROUND 3
ZAVIAR GOODEN, OLB, Missouri
Our LB corps is a mess with DJ starting to act the fool. We need his replacement. While Wes is solid help, I think we need a talent upgrade. Enter Gooden. He is lighter, but is a BLAZER and has solid cover skills for this new NFL. Even Ray Lewis thought he needed to lose 15 lbs.
ROUND 4
JON BOSTIC, MLB, Florida
Another sound, athletic LB who shouldn't be a liability in pass coverage. His heigth may make him drop here, but dude can play. He excels vs top SEC competition.
ROUND 5
MICHAEL DYER, RB, Arkansas State (via Auburn)
Ray Rice, MJD, Doug Martin clone. Dyer is short, but not necessarily small. Shown he can handle legit competition in the SEC. Has his share of issues, but would be nice for us w/ McGahee aging and Knowshon being in a contract year.
ROUND 6
Braxston Cave, C, Notre Dame
Depth for the interior Oline. Often times, Centers are undervalued and very good ones drop. Good centers can be had later in the draft and Cave is a very good one.
ROUND 7
LAMAR MADY, OG, Youngstown State
Small school PROJECT with worlds of potential. He's from my alma mater, so I have seen him. Definitely worth a look.
