DOWN GOES PORTLAND! DOWN GOES PORTLAND!

After that rough start, I figured the series would come back to Denver for game 7.

    Awesome.

Wow, I think the Nuggets are the only playoff bubble team that is actually exceeding expectations from last season? Others didn’t make it or on the verge of getting bounced.

On a serious note, good job Nuggs. Cant really hate on them but man i really wish Portland could make a serious run at some point. Feel bad for Damian.

I think CJ got outplayed nearly every game this series. Would be a great team if Dame got a good group around him. They underachieved this year from what I understand.

Default Keeler: Nikola Jokic is Denver’s Tim Duncan. And even against Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Suns, doubt Nuggets at your peril.

Jusuf Nurkic left every road open but the one back to Portland. Lonzo Ball is allegedly jockeying for the highest bidder. Meanwhile, Nikola Jokic steps in front of a camera and offers this with a straight face:

“When I came to Denver, I said that I would love to be Denver’s Tim Duncan, because he played his whole career in San Antonio.”

As we didn’t love the big lug enough already.

The quote was from an interview in Serbian to RTS, a broadcaster in the Joker’s native land. It was apparently recorded before Jokic’s historic 2020-21 regular season, the one that’s expected to make him the first Nuggets player to ever win the NBA’s MVP award. The RTS piece reportedly aired last Monday.

“God-willing,” The Joker continued in Serbian, “I would love to play my whole career in Denver.”

Default Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic wins first NBA MVP award

Seven years ago, the Denver Nuggets used the 41st pick in the NBA draft on an unheralded center from Serbia.

On Tuesday, Nikola Jokic became the sixth international player to win the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award.

The Denver star becomes the first center since Shaquille O'Neal in 2000 to be named the league's MVP. Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, the other finalists for the award, finished second and third, respectively in voting.

Jokic put together one of the best offensive seasons in NBA history, finishing the year with career-best averages of 26.4 points and 8.3 assists and tying a career best by averaging 10.8 rebounds. He also shot 56.6% from the field, 38.8% from 3-point range and 86.8% from the foul line. He led Denver into the second round of the playoffs despite injuries to three of Denver's guards -- Jamal Murray, Will Barton and PJ Dozier -- a feat that none of the other teams that made it to the conference finals of last year's playoffs in the bubble in Orlando -- the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and Boston Celtics -- were able to match.

Default Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokić named NBA's Most Valuable Player

Jokić becomes first Denver Nugget and first second round pick to win MVP in Modern NBA History

Denver, June 8, 2021 – It was announced today that Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the 2020-21 season. The end of season awards were voted on by members of the media.

Jokić, 26, caps off his historic season by becoming the first second round draft pick in modern NBA history to win the award and the first Denver Nugget in the team’s NBA history to be named MVP. Jokić earned his third consecutive All-Star nomination this year, his first being voted as an All-Star Starter. He was named Western Conference Player of the Month twice (Dec./Jan. and March) and Western Conference Player of the Week three times (Jan. 25, Feb. 1, Mar. 22).

“Nikola’s journey from the 41st pick in the draft to MVP is one of the most remarkable individual stories we have witnessed in sports,” said Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke. “His hard work, commitment and dedication to his craft, team and community are second to none. We couldn’t be more proud and fortunate to have him with us in Denver.”

“The only thing better than Nikola Jokić the basketball player is Nikola Jokić the person,” stated Vice Chairman Josh Kroenke. “His skill and IQ combine for beautiful basketball, and there isn’t a more deserving person for such a prestigious award.”

Really hope they can steal the game tomorrow and make game 3 hype for the crowd when Jokic gets his MVP award.

Default Kobe Bryant’s role in Nikola Jokic’s MVP win with Nuggets

In 2019, Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant challenged Nikola Jokic to win MVP. Two years later, the Denver Nuggets center can now say mission accomplished.

On Tuesday, Jokic officially won the 2020-21 MVP honor, beating the two other finalists in Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid and Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry. The Nuggets superstar took the award via landslide victory after he got 91 first place votes en route to 971 points–385 points ahead of Embiid who finished second.

After the incredible feat, Kobe’s challenge to Jokic back in 2019 resurfaced. In the said video, the Lakers icon dared D’Angelo Russell to be an All-Star, Paul George to be Defensive Player of the Year, and Jokic to be MVP. Russell became an All-Star in the same year, while Jokic has now fulfilled his part.
