Default Nuggets announce regular-season schedule, open vs. Detroit on Oct. 29

All things considered, the Nuggets caught a scheduling break.

The Nuggets schedule was revealed on Wednesday, and they open the second season of the coach Brian Shaw era against the new-look Detroit Pistons on Oct. 29 at the Pepsi Center.

The Nuggets have one long road trip all season long — a five-game swing in March. But other than that, they'll be yanked in and out of town yo-yo style in a schedule that never keeps their feet in one spot for too long.

Their first eight games alternate between home and road contests. There are 21 sets of back-to-backs on the schedule.

Default Nuggets' Kenneth Faried key part of Team USA's emphasis on big men

NEW YORK — Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried is part of a packed frontcourt for the Team USA squad going to the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

After years of ignoring size concerns by fielding teams with the best wing players in the world, the Americans decided this time around that bigger was better.

That meant keeping all the big men left on their roster, with Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond joining New Orleans all-star Anthony Davis, Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins, Brooklyn's Mason Plumlee and Faried on the team announced Friday night after USA's 112-86 exhibition win over Puerto Rico in New York

Default Report: Cavaliers trying to trade for Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst joined the network’s radio station in Cleveland on Monday and said the Cavaliers are trying to trade for Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov, and have been for the last six or eight weeks.

“(Mozgov) played with (Cavaliers coach) David Blatt on the Russian national team,” Windhorst said. “A starter-quality guy who can defend a little bit, makes about $3 million. Then these non-guaranteed contracts — (F) Erik Murphy, (G) John Lucas, and (F Malcolm) Thomas — that’s who they got these guys to trade for, but Denver’s not giving (Mozgov) up. That’s the guy (the Cavs) want to get their hands on. That would be a nice addition, but they haven’t been able to do that deal so far.

“You’re not going to hold a parade if you got him like you are with Love,” Windhorst added, “but that’s the guy they’re looking at. They haven’t been able to do the deal yet. They’ve been trying to trade for him for the last six to eight weeks and they just haven’t been able to get it done.”

I've been watching team USA over the last few weeks. Faried is starting as the power forward. He's a perfect fit there. He brings energy and rebounding to the team. He still can't play man defense or shoot beyond 5 feet, but with superstars all around him he's a great role player. He'll probably play a significant role in the Olympics.

Default Dempsey: Kenneth Faried's effort seeing wider exposure with Team USA

Kenneth Faried's recent rising star is proof that a world stage can be a powerful thing. Average 18 points and 10 rebounds after the all-star break last NBA season, against the best players in the world? The skeptics' voices still rang loudest.

Do exactly the same thing against overmatched competition in group play of the FIBA World Cup? Now he's a keeper. Strange and backwards, but true.

It can be argued Faried has done more to open up the eyes of his own fan base and NBA eyes nationwide in one week in Spain than he had in the balance of his already upwardly mobile career. That's been the real value of this tournament so far him. He's playing as he always has. But his name and his nickname, the "Manimal," are becoming household, and for a player looking to earn his first all-star berth this upcoming season, this is big-time stuff.

Default Danilo Gallinari regrets going to Steadman Clinic in Vail for 1st knee procedure

Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari injured his left anterior cruciate ligament in a game in April of 2013, just before Denver was to start the playoffs. At the time, it was clear that Gallinari’s season was over, and it was just a question of when he would return for the following season — at the start or shortly after.

But few anticipated him missing the entire 2014 season and requiring a second knee surgery in January of 2014.

Now, nearly a year and a half since undergoing his first procedure — a two-part job by The Steadman Clinic of Vail to repair his meniscus and then his ACL — Galliari has told Sportando.com that he made “the wrong choice” by going to the clinic in the first place.

Default Nuggets expected to sign free agent Marcus Williams

The Nuggets are expected to sign free agent Marcus Williams, according to a source.

RealGM’s Shams Charania first reported news of any potential with Williams.

Williams, not to be confused with the former NBA veteran out of Connecticut, would sign as a training camp invite, as the Nuggets will have 15 players, the league max, signed to guaranteed deals once the season opens.

Default Time for Denver Nuggets to get ball rolling again nears

In two days, the Nuggets get back at it. Training camp for the 2014-15 season opens Tuesday, and it is the Nuggets' desire for it to be the foundation of a return to the playoffs. They missed the postseason last year for the first time since 2003 in an injury-marred campaign. With good health, they hope to start a new playoffs streak. Denver Post NBA writer Christopher Dempsey looks at five story lines as the curtain is raised on this year's camp:

    How will Gallinari look?

When camp opens it will have been 544 days since Danilo Gallinari last took the basketball court in an NBA capacity. That's one year, five months and 26 days since he tore his left ACL and sparked a series of events that featured one failed knee surgery, one successful knee surgery, an entire missed season and one heck of a coat of rust to be knocked off when he plays in his first regular season since 2013. Gallinari's absence in the 2013 playoffs was a huge reason why the Nuggets were bounced out in the first round after earning the conference's No. 3 seed. His presence with this team will be just as critical.
