Default Gary Harris’ clutch Game 7 stop saves Nuggets’ season: “He’s the best defender I know”

Gary Harris’ offense can wait. After nearly six months away from NBA basketball, thanks to the COVID pandemic and a nagging hip injury, it would’ve been foolish to expect his rhythm to return, in an elimination game in the playoffs no less.

Instead, over the course of Game 6 and Tuesday’s thrilling Game 7, Harris did what he does best; he put the clamps on whoever had the unfortunate task of trying to take him off the dribble.

Up 80-78 with 13 seconds left, Game 7 flipped on a defining defensive sequence that Harris played brilliantly. As Jazz superstar Donovan Mitchell stepped into the backcourt and bought himself a head of steam, Harris looked around and made sure no screens would blindside him. It was just him vs. Mitchell, the NBA’s postseason scoring leader at over 36 points per game, on an island.

Hell of a comeback. Wish I could have watched more last night, but was busy. I’m sorry my 90s Nuggets fan frustration came out down 3-1.

I despise the NBA, but its cool that the local fellas are making a legit run.

I will say the last time I watched any NBA at all was like 5-10 mins. of a Nuggets playoff game a year ago maybe and was very impressed with that Jokic dude.

How good is the dude who dropped 50 the other night (I read a little about it)? It seems for an NBA team to be true contenders they need 2 superstars, do the Nuggets have that?

We possibly have 3 including Murray and Jokic, but the third is Michael Porter Jr but he's a rookie and he is really raw. He's shown flashes in the bubble.

One thing that impressed me in this Utah series was our bench. Plumlee and co. really stepped up.

#Nugglife definition: so close yet so far....

After they mishandled that last possession instead of killing time and waiting to be fouled I thought for sure that 3 on the other end was gonna get drilled.

Jokic is legit the best or second best center in the NBA, but his defense leaves a lot to be desired. Murray shows some real flashes of superstardom and is only 23. Michael Porter Jr. might be the most talented of the bunch, but he has a bad back and is completely lost defensively. He’s a legit top-end NBA scorer already at 22.

So, yes, there are flashes of three superstars. But really only one consistent one now.

I think Murray can cement himself as a legit #2 very soon. This next series will be telling.

IMO the Nuggets have some really good players who are not considered superstars

that was a hell of a bounce back effort. . . 44 points in the 1st quarter. . . has anyone else noticed that jokic seems to have found a better three point shot in the bubble?
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

A lot of players are shooting better. Shooting back drop is easier in an arena with closer walls, and no fans, from what I understand. Like a green batter’s eye in baseball.

i know. . . but it looks to me like he's tweaked the mechanics of his shot a bit, as well-- he's putting up really high-arching shots. . . wasn't he down in the low 30s pre-bubble? i need to look it up, but he has to be better than that in the playoffs. . . i think it might be more than just the differing arena dynamics. . . hope so, anyway. . . he's shooting them with a lot of confidence, would be great if that carries over. . .
