    from article:

He's got an image as a defense-first coach, but for the Nuggets to have hired him, Malone convinced general manager Tim Connelly and president Josh Kroenke he will keep the pace high on offense. Nuggets management made it clear during the search process they want a return to a fast-paced style.

Excuse me - did NOT the Nuggets play at a fast-pace under Melvin?????

    Get the Karl stank out.

Nuggets would be wise to do whatever they can to retain Melvin Hunt. Translation - pay raise.

Why are they so damn married to fast?

How about, just play good basketball? How about don't take shit shots because the shot clock is down to 15, or quit with the isolation crap and have some movement, or maybe play a little, just a little, defense?

Well, it sort of behooves a team playing at 5,280 feet above sea level to play fast, not to mention that's basically what the game has evolved into... It's all about fast paced ball movement.

Also, I think it was reflexively a move away from whatever the hell we've tried for the last year.

The Nuggets don't play with fast paced ball movement. They just play fast, which tends to lead to a lot of mistakes. I'd just like to see some structure. I don't care so much about "fast" if it wasn't the singular emphasis. Playing fast without any other structure is useless.

Well out of the candidates that the Nuggets had, Malone was the only legit coach on the list. Hunt would have been the safe pick. D'Antoni would have been a complete joke. Malone earned the respect of the fan base and of the players. There were a lot of upset people when he got fired in Sacramento. I expect Cousins to be a Nugget by the end of draft night. He's always wanted to play the power forward position, and he loved playing for Malone. Nurkic and Cousins will make a huge front court. Good bye to Faried and Lawson.

Denver hired Malone on Monday, according to the Denver Post and Yahoo Sports, after beating out Mike D'Antoni and Nuggets interim coach Melvin Hunt for the job. Malone compiled a 39-67 record with the Sacramento Kings, who fired him in December after just 1 1/2 seasons.

The question now turns to whether Denver will blow up its roster this summer and undergo a rebuild. Signs have been pointing to yes, with team president Josh Kroenke saying he was open to trading any player, and on Monday ESPN's Chad Ford took it a step further: The Nuggets aren't just open to trades, they're "aggressively" trying to find one ahead of the 2015 NBA draft.

"The Nuggets continue to aggressively pursue a trade to get another pick in the top 5. They are offering anyone on their roster but haven't had much luck," Ford wrote. "Ty Lawson seems especially hard for them to get rid of right now. 'He's talented,' a rival GM said, 'but there's a reason the Nuggets are letting him go. I don't think he has the leadership abilities to be an elite point guard in the league.'"

In February, the reported asking price for Lawson was two first-round draft picks. Lawson indicated in April he wanted out of Denver, with reports naming the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings as his two biggest suitors.

Another team to watch for, though, could be the New York Knicks.

Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler reported last week the Knicks were seriously considering trading down from the No. 4 spot - something Ford confirmed Monday - and named the Nuggets as a likely trade partner. The report has even stronger legs to stand on after Ford indicating Denver wanted to trade into the top 5.

Default Michael Malone vows to get Nuggets to play fast, defend well

Michael Malone officially took over as head coach of the Denver Nuggets Tuesday morning at a news conference at Pepsi Center.

In his introductory remarks, the former Sacramento Kings coach said he will emphasis defense but wants the Nuggets to run and take advantage of playing at altitude.

"Don't paint me, I play to the strength of our roster, I believe in playing fast, but more important is being efficient," Malone said. "We we will use altitude to our advantage. To not use altitude to our advantage would be silly.

"We will be a team that defends and rebounds with purpose and runs with purpose."

Haven't listened to it yet. All observers seem to be pretty impressed.
