Speaking of Javele, how much is that guy getting paid to play anywhere from 5-15 min a game?

Just unbelievable. IMO this organization is really in a bad place right now. They have guys in front office that haven't shown they know what they are doing. Ownership won't stop meddling in everyday affairs with the team. A coach who is in over his head, a roster that really doesn't fit and the wrong kind of designated stars. Just my humble opinion.

I don't think Shaw is a bad coach. I think he went to a team that plays the opposite of what he knows. He is a defensive minded coach who went to an offensive minded team. He inherited a team with a bunch of role players that have big contracts and no stars. They can't play defense to save their lives, and they don't get the concept of team ball. Any coach is going to have a hard time winning in Denver. Seriously, what coach would want to come to this team with this roster and their payrolls?

JaVale is still on restricted minutes, because of his injury.

I do not remember which local sports person, or sports writer, said it in regards to Shaw last season, but the comment was - Shaw needs to coach to the strength of his players, rather than expecting them to change to fit into the system he wants.

I don't love this narrative, even if there's some truth to it. Don't take the job if it's such a bad fit. It's not like they unexpectedly overhauled the roster with a bunch of different skill sets. These are the guys he signed up to coach. If he can't find a way to maximize their talents then that makes him a bad coach. I'm not saying he needs to work miracles and turn this roster into a playoff contender - but they aren't even competitive right now.

Expanding on this - why did Kroenke and Conley even consider Shaw, with the roster they had? Unless Shaw, in his interview, convinced them that he could/would adapt his coaching style to fit the players.

And, as a side note, so far this season, Ty had very little scoring production. Last night, he scored 32 points, and looked like what everyone hoped he would look like. During the broadcast, either Hastings or Marlow stated that Ty had brought in HIS shooting coach, to work with him. Is this normal practice for a player to do this, or should Shaw & his coaching staff not be able to recognize what Ty was doing/not doing?

The roster is full of just a bunch of bad players, and for whatever reason SHaw isn't even playing a rotation, it seems like he's just playing everyonme and hope someone catches fire. The best players on the Nuggets are probably mid level players at their position in the NBA.

I disagree that this roster is full of a bunch of bad players. There are good players on this roster. I agree that Shaw has no set rotation. He pulls some players before they even can get into the flow. At least last year, he did have set rotations. I have no clue what he is doing so far this year.

Watching the replay. Some serious lack of effort, and pathetic shooting. Not much Shaw can do about that.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Default Denver Nuggets Have Limited Options To Replace Brian Shaw

When the halftime buzzer sounded Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center, smoldering choruses of boos rang down from the smattering of fans that were in attendance that evening. The 84 points that appeared on the guest side of the scoreboard was the highest number of points given up by the Denver Nuggets in a half since 1990.

Those of you with any familiarity or history with the Nuggets will remember that team, which finished the year with 20 total wins, was led by a man entrenched in the bowels of infamy in Denver history, Paul Westhead. That particular team gave up an historically bad 130.77 points that season, including 107 points at half to the Phoenix Suns, the only game that eclipses the embarrassment of the loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

The final buzzer may have ended the agony for the players and the fans, but it marked the beginning of the speculation around Brian Shaw’s future as head coach. As Shaw walked off the court, he was subjected to visceral verbal attacks laced with profanity and unfounded hatred. On Twitter the reaction was extreme and primarily consisted of calls to bring back George Karl. The generally accepted speculation was that Shaw was going to be out of a job as soon as this morning but most certainly by All-Star break.

    from same article:

Arron Afflalo didn’t play a single minute in the second half, and at one point he wasn’t even seen on the bench. This immediately resurrected memories of Shaw’s struggles with veteran point guard Andre Miller last season. This is the type of loss that initiates change.

This bothers me, as AA is definitely not a trouble maker

If only there was a coach out there that could get this group of players (or at least a reasonable facsimile) to the playoffs. I bet that guy would win coach of the year, if he existed.

Default Frustration boils over in loss to Portland

    some things from article:

The Denver Nuggets season has already reached a tipping point, and this team may already been leaning too far in the wrong direction to salvage it.

For most of the early going, it looked like Shaw’s biggest challenge would be figuring out how to distribute minutes. Now it looks like his biggest task will be getting his team to try.

Still, the fact that Shaw hasn’t been able to motivate his team isn’t a good sign for the Nuggets future (Afflalo in particular has a reputation as a player who is both coachable and plays hard. The fact that he didn’t play in the second half – for reasons unknown at this point – is troublesome). Neither is the fact that, with a few exceptions, his team isn’t buying in to what Shaw is preaching on the court.

    Well, he could coach better...

Seriously though - I just don't buy that at all. His primary role is to get his guys to play well. Yes, that's challenging - but that's why he's making a bunch of money. Vic Lombardi was saying that this morning - your role is half psychologist, half strategist as a NBA head coach... But he definitely gets a fair share of the blame.

Sure, but there's not a damn thing he can do to make Chandler and Hickson not let Brooke Lopez run straight down the floor two plays in a row and split them for easy buckets, other than bench them.
