Default Kenneth Faried of 2014 comes with newfound swagger — and a gold medal

Kenneth Faried still wears No. 35. He still pulls his braids back in a ponytail. He still wears wristbands and white socks that come midway up his calves. And he's still the most energetic guy in the room.

But this isn't the Kenneth Faried that the NBA saw last season.

For starters, he now has a gold medal around his neck.

The Nuggets forward recently returned to Denver — for the start of training camp Tuesday — after spending the summer in Spain with Team USA in the FIBA World Cup.

Default Nuggets aim to crank up the tempo to run away from opponents

The dirty little secret of last season's Nuggets team is despite all of the talk about better half-court play, they were quietly playing at one of the fastest paces in the NBA.

Fact: The Nuggets' "pace factor" was 100.68, meaning they had nearly 101 possessions per game. That ranked third in the NBA.

Fact: That pace factor was faster than every George Karl-coached Nuggets team except one — the 2007-08 team, which checked in at 102.3. Karl was and still is known as a fast-play guru. Pace factor was one of his favorite statistics.

Those statistics mean coach Brian Shaw was inaccurately pinned as a coach who prefers slowdown, half-court basketball when from the start of the season the Nuggets were one of the fastest-paced teams in the league. And they did it while putting an emphasis on becoming better in the half court.

Ty Lawson and Brian Shaw are here watching #Broncos practice today. Shaw wants Lawson to watch Peyton Manning as a leader.

Default Brian Shaw, Ty Lawson attend Broncos practice to watch Manning

Nuggets coach Brian Shaw is a man of his word.

At the team's media day Monday, Shaw said he wanted to take point guard Ty Lawson to a Broncos practice so he watch Peyton Manning in action, to see how the sure-fire Hall-of-Famer leads his team.

Two days later, he did just that.

Shaw and Lawson stood on the sidelines at Dove Valley on Wednesday to witness Manning direct traffic in drills, with Shaw visibly coaching Lawson the entire time.

Default Kenneth Faried signs $60 million extension with Denver Nuggets

Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said he was optimistic about getting an extension done for his burgeoning star, Kenneth Faried, and he's done just that.

Faried and the Nuggets have agreed on 5-year, $60 million extension, a league source confirmed on Monday morning.

It is the culmination of a stellar year so far the Nuggets hyper-energetic power forward, who played top-shelf basketball at the end of last year's regular season and followed that up with eye-opening play with the USA Basketball Team in their gold medal-winning performance at the FIBA World Cup in the summer.

Default Contract behind him, Kenneth Faried focuses fully on Nuggets

The numbers divided by commas and decimal points are of no consequence to Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried. Only the numbers on a stat sheet matter to him, he says.

He is richer now, much richer after agreeing to a contract extension that will pay him up to $52 million over the next four years, provided he hits all his incentives. But it's business as usual for Faried, who promises his focus will never waver, and that he'll continue to bring the bushels of energy to the basketball court that helped get him paid in the first place.

    He is grateful, however.

"It feels good, you know," Faried told The Post on Wednesday morning after the Nuggets shootaround. "I'm a Nugget, I'm staying a Nugget. I'm just ecstatic about the opportunity and this up-and-coming year."

Yeah, Gallo loves getting injured - in fact he tries to get injured every season.
