Default Brian Shaw, new Denver Nuggets coach, knows how to motivate players

Brian Shaw used to help bring the Kobe out of Kobe. Now he hopes to bring the Kobe out of others by bringing up Kobe. "When I had a young player like Paul George or Lance Stephenson in Indiana, if they wanted to just cut corners, I'd just remind them, 'There's a guy on the coast who's one of the best to ever play the game, and he doesn't cut corners,' " said Shaw, the 20th coach in Nuggets history.

Shaw was a teammate of Kobe Bryant's and later coached him with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"He puts in his work. He respects the game. He takes care of his body," Shaw said of Bryant.

    Comparing love to Ben Wallace?

That is the worst comparison ever.

In terms of rebounding and defensive ability it's relatively spot on. Analogies don't have to be perfect for them to have worth.

love is nothing like wallace. if anyone, faried is the closest thing to a wallace style player, although hes a poor version.

Kevin love is an average defender at best.

The only thing the two have in common is rebounding ability.

Again it's one of the worst comparisons I've seen in a long while.

Default Brian Shaw contract with Nuggets near $2 million per year for 3 years

Already, six first-time NBA coaches have been hired this summer — and the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers still have vacancies. Denver nabbed one of them, perhaps the most heralded of the bunch in Phil Jackson protege Brian Shaw, introduced Tuesday as the 20th Nuggets coach in history.

According to an NBA source, Shaw signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year, and the former Indiana Pacers assistant coach will have an annual salary in the $2 million range. George Karl, who Shaw replaced, made around $4.5 million. Denver still has to pay Karl, who was let go earlier this month.

Pacers coach Frank Vogel, who hired Shaw, told reporters, "I'm ecstatic for him, I've sort of felt the disappointment he's felt when he didn't get job, it's been hard on him. But there's no one more deserving. It's exciting to see someone get it right, I think he'll do just a phenomenal job, I think he'll be one of the best coach this league sees for many, many years."

My vote would be to make a bold move in the draft and take a shot at the one of the 2 or 3 guys that have superstar potential. Nerlens, or Mclemore would look good in a Nuggets uniform. The Nuggets have a lot of tradeable pieces that they could part with.

The analogy was a player who can make a huge impact without necessarily scoring a ton of points. Does that describe Love? Yes. Did that description accurately depict Wallace? Yes.

I was off about the defense. Sorry to offend your immaculate posters.

Default Denver Nuggets may look to trade out of first round of NBA draft

The key question for the Nuggets in the NBA draft Thursday: Is a guaranteed three-year contract for $2.8 million — $899,000 in the first season — worth it?

That's what the 27th pick in the draft will cost the Nuggets, should they select a player in that slot. And would that player even play?

The short answer to those questions is no, and the Nuggets are expected to try to trade out of the first round. But there are complications in doing so. They aren't the only team drafting late in the first round looking to make a move out of it. If those teams can't find a suitor, the Nuggets would have to make that selection.

I think we still own the rights to Izzet Turkyilmaz who is overseas as well don't we?

Plenty of young talent here, we either need to send the pick for a future pick or package it and move up for a more "bonafide" or for an upgrade at a position.

It would be really nice to get a point guard that can shoot the 3.

I would say a 2 guard to shoot the three, but agree.

I don't remember dat foreign dude, tho.
