Default Broncos' depth chart crowded at safety, with Carter, Leonhard back

The Broncos got Jim Leonhard back on the practice field Tuesday. Quinton Carter got back on the practice field earlier this week. And safety just became a squeaky-tight affair on the depth chart as the Broncos approach their two cut-down dates at the end of the month.

Carter had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee early on in training camp and did not play in the Broncos' first two preseason games. Leonhard was still working his way back from December knee surgery when the Broncos signed him Aug. 5, just after Carter was injured.

Leonhard had spent the time off on the Broncos' physically unable to perform (PUP) list before being added to the team's active roster Tuesday morning, just before he participated in a practice for the first time.
