Default Coaches on the hot seat (Pre-season predictions)

Who do you think will get fired 1st?

Whisenhunt (Cardinals): My choice for 1st to be fired for the 2nd year in a row. The QB that may have saved his job last year, John Skelton, is stinking up training camp. Skelton is currently doing even worse than the QB that he out performed during the latter half of last year to save his coaches job, Kevin Kolb.

Gailey (Bills): Has spent his 1st 2 seasons continuing the Bills losing ways. If the Bills lose during his 3rd season, will he be given a 4th?

Should survive the season, but how much longer will ownership be willing to except mediocrity?
    Turner (Chargers)
    Smith (Bears)
    Reid (Eagles)
    Lewis (Bangles)

    Other
Shanahan (Redskins): A rational owner wouldnt expect a winning season from a rookie QB, but Snider isnt a rational owner.
Ryan (Jets): If youre going to keep shooting your moth off, you better win. This is a lesson that he obviously didnt learn from his dad career, Buddy Ryan.

Hard to see the future. My guess is that no one gets fired mid season and Norv is the first to get the axe as an under performing Chargers team finally does him in.

Whiz. With all the money they poured into Kolb and still dont have a definite starter would be a bad sign. The leash would have to be short methinks.

I would think Turner is at the very top of the list. He was handed a 14-2 team with a top QB, RB, TE and defense. What's he done with it? Nothing but excuses.

Of course, I personally hope they keep Norv, because its better for our team.

Shanahan is in the 3rd year of a 5 year contract. Firing him would cost them 14 million, and considering they just now signed RGIII it wouldn't make sense. I think the mixer of Shanahan with and a mobile QB that is accurate on the move, is going to play huge for them in the soon future.

I have to take the "field" just because there are so many possibilities of teams getting off to a bad start and the coach being fired. The Dolphins and Raiders seem to be revolving doors with extremely little patience. If the Cowboys sputter, Jerrah might bail quickly. In the "Win now" mindset of much of the NFL, any coach who starts out 0-4 will be on the hot seat.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

The entire AFC West thanks Spanos and Smith for keeping Norv around.

I would say Whisenhunt, then Turner and others are safe. Bills are improving and defense is going to be stout. They are going to be middle of the pack IMO. They had a great start to the season. They are def improving. Reid is safe, team came on strong at end of last season. Lewis could be in trouble if team falls off, but after making playoffs I dont see it. Ryan is going to stay unless team flops hard this season. Shanahan improved last season overall and now have RG3. Smith could be if team flopped but i dont see that.

A local sports anchor just said that a loss like the Chargers had tonight is the kind that can get a coach like Norv Turner fired. So is this the final straw?

pat shurmur, jason garrett and norval look like the prime candidates right now. . .

i don't think there will be a huge number of firings this year/off-season. . . maybe romeo crennel, chan gailey, or rex if the jets tank badly at some point. . .

Pat Shurmur: If the Browns fire their 2nd year coach, who is starting a rookie QB, then the Browns will demonstrate to the football world why they are the Browns. Serious, you got to give a guy some time to build a team with players that suit his football philosophy.

Jason Garrett: 2nd full year coaching a team owned by an egomaniac with dilutions that hes an elite talent evaluator, anything is possible. If I was the owner of a future team that Garnett was interviewing for the HC position, I wouldnt hold his Dallas ordeal against him.

Norv Turner: Even though I was the one whose post your responding to in regard to a sports anchor suggesting that the loss the Chargers had on Monday night is the kind that can get a coach fired, Im not sure if Id fire him just yet if I was the owner of the Chargers. Theyre still a competitive team, so Id be willing to consider giving Turner another year or two to turn things back around. That would be provided the Charger dont completely unravel before then.

Romeo Crennel: If we do away with all divisions and simply rank entire league according to record & tie breakers, the Chiefs are #32. http://www.nfl.com/standings?category=league Nevertheless, this is his 1st full year as head coach and so he pretty much inherited this mess from Haley. Once again, you got to give the guy a chance to build a team with players that suit his football philosophy.

Chan Gailey: 3rd year as coach, the Bills better find their way to .500 if Gailey wants to be assured of saving his job. If they finish with few then the 6 wins that they had last season, I dont like his chance of being around for next season.

Rex Ryan: Despite what happened this past Sunday, the Jets are defiantly going in the wrong direction. Their beat down of Colts is not that impressive when you consider who it was that they beat down. If Im the owner of the Jets, Id be expecting a lot more if Ryan wants to keep his job at the end of the season.

Ken Whisenhunt: The Cards 4-0 start was great, but I was just waiting for them to pay the piper for having Kolb & Skelton as their top 2 QBs behind one of the worst O-lines in the league. Yes, my Cards fan friends & neighbors, the sky is about fall right on your heads. Will Whisenhunt still have his job in the aftermath, only time will tell?

I actually think we see a number of coaches getting fired.

Turner. The dude was awful to begin with and the GM just couldn't get past his ego of firing the coach that actually put that team on the map above being the team that constantly picked #1 overall.

Rex Ryan. Gone. His mouth keeps getting him in trouble. He took a pretty damn good team and has turned it to a joke. The owner brought in the circus of Tebow, but Ryan keeps making "guarantees" every week. Stop it. Ryan is gone.

Crennel. Was a terrible hiring to begin with, and Piolli has his entire career attached to ex-patriots...starting with a bad QB in Cassel. Just like McDaniels tried to do. Both might be fired after this season, with an entire new UP start. New GM that hires his own coach, and they will both then draft their own new QB.

Gailey. He's never been good as an HC.

Reid. He made the mistake of attaching his career to Vick. He's going to be fired, and will end up in one of the positions available by all the other firings.... look for Dallas to be the front runner for Reid.

Garrett is a TERRIBLE HC. He's in over his head. We all know the owner of the cowboys is an egomaniac, but mega-rich egomaniacs don't become billionaires because they are stupid. Although stubborness can make a smart man appear dumb, I think that even this ego-maniac moves on from Garrett and goes after Reid with both barrels.

I think Whis keeps his job easily for another year.

I forgot to include Andy Reed (Eagles) on my last post, but I did include him in my 1st post under, "Should survive the season, but how much longer will ownership be willing to except mediocrity?" I still don't think he's going to be 1st on the chopping block, but I expect the 1st meeting he has with the owner after the season is over to be his last.
