With the first two days of the hearing on the Aurora shooting completed, here is some of what's been made public.

First, on the weapons he used. The majority of rounds fired were with the AR-15. They found 65 shell casings in the theater, six shotgun shells, five .40 S&W (Glock pistol) and 54 .223. It was previously reported (accurate??) that he first fired the shotgun and it was 00 Buck, which would have meant in addition to the 54 .223 shots, there were 48-60 .33 caliber shotgun pellets.

Second, he purchased his ticket to the showing 12 days before the actual showing.

Third, he had a variety of home made explosives that would have killed/severely wounded anyone entering the building. He had apparently used a remote control like is used for a car that was tied to one of the explosive devices in his apartment and had put the remote control and a car, along with a boombox on a timer outside his apartment The plan appeared to be the boombox would start blaring music, someone investigating the music would play with the car and set off the explosion, diverting first responders to his apartment so he could do more damage.

In all, there were more than a dozen explosive devices in his apartment loaded with napalm, smokeless powder and live ammunition. Carpets were soaked with oil and gasoline to fuel any blast.

His computer was set to play loud music at a designated time. He was hoping “someone would call the police and that the police would respond to his apartment,” Gumbinner [FBI bomb technician] said.

"He said he rigged his apartment to explode or catch fire in order to divert police resources to his apartment,” Gumbinner said, recounting an interview with Holmes.
