I am all for an option to turn it on or off. It should be fairly simple to implement and maintain.

I won't use it myself, but I don't mind it at all.

Off the top of my head, I think there are two options for me to provide that option.

First, create a new theme (like the work friendly) that had or doesn't have the ticker. The down side to that is arguably I would have to make two new ones, one standard and one worker friendly. The second downside is that every time there is a vBulletin upgrade (every two months or so), any modifications made to the themes/templates, like adopted Broncos and a lot of other more subtle or behind the scenes stuff, needs to be manually reapplied to each template (header, footer, main post area, etc.).

Second, create a check box in options, like where you can choose whether or not to see political sigs, and then modify the code (or navbar template) with an "if....then" block that only shows it for those that want to see it. I don't think this would be too hard, and the navbar template is already one that I have to manually reapply changes to after each update, so it is not too much more work at upgrade time.

If I did make it a user option, than the question is whether or not it should be shown to non-registered people, as we have at least three times as many people that lurk as login.
IMO, it would be best to keep it there for the lurkers... that way if they're coming for the news, they can still see the latest stuff on the ticker. I suppose the reason I found it annoying is that with news "slow" in the offseason, the same headlines just keep scrolling by with very few changes or new stuff and that will change once training camp starts, so...I can get used to it if it's here to stay.

Looks like it's essentially 50/50. If that's the case, feel free to move my vote to the kill it side. No sense bothering others who don't like it, it's not something worth bothering others if 50% don't like it.

For those who do like it, they can still read the news stories on line here - under LiveNewsFeed, and DenverPostNewsFeed.

I'll wait for a little more feedback, but based on what I have seen so far, I will probably disable it for now, and then consider making it an option going forward (I'm about to hit the road next week, so don't have the time nor wan't to make a custom change when I will be out of touch, in case something goes wrong).

Alternatively, as soon as I get some time, I plan to redo the home page with a less cluttered, more news-like look, and that could be the quick, one stop news location.

get rid of it, and replace it with naked dancing girls!
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

I kinda like it. I wish it moved faster, and I think during the season it will be very useful. That being said, Dogfish's idea is way better.
