Were you reporting AS7? The crux of the system here is that posts need to be reported if you feel someone is getting out of line. AS7 wasn't getting reported because the majority of people dealing with this person were having a good time with them, and trying to figure out who they were.

That is why OaklandRaider hasn't been banned. Unless someone feels that they post something worthy of being reported, they don't.

I have no idea if anyone else reported AS7, but i know i did which is a rare thing for me to do. When i watch a mod trying to defuse a situation and that same individual continues to harass or instigate another member i find that out of line and above the norm. No offense man, but i dont need a reported post to tell me that. Unfortuantely, NTL was put in a bad position there because he was in the middle of trying to clean up the mess and deal with NUB's issue regarding AS7. I think the general point that NUB has been trying to make is it shouldnt take a reported post every single time to point out that someone has stepped out of line. Lax modding does not mean dont do anything at all. I agree with NUB that this was a clear case of baiting and another mod should have been notified by NTL or stepped in and taken care of it while patrolling before it had even reached that point. Doesnt mean that NUB is right in how he handled it but i do agree that it was a no-brainer on what was going on.

I think you may be reading more into my post. I'm not saying that the mods did a good job regarding AS7. I'm just pointing out the flaw in the system.

I'll readily admit that I handled that poorly.

However, as I explained in that thread, I saw the posts from AS7 and intended to clean them up, even sending a PM regarding it at 11:06 that day. But at that time I got tied up on a telephone call with a client, and couldn't get back to the thread quickly enough. NUB posted at 11:13 a very negative and insulting post calling my integrity into question while I was trying to take care of business.

When I came back to the thread and saw that, I didn't really like being called out like that. Especially since I am not the only MOD on the board and the posts had happened a few hours earlier. I had just become aware of them and had good intentions of taking care of those posts.

The posts in question were not reported by anyone at that point. No one. So, whether or not other Moderators were even aware of them I cannot answer. I know that I read them at 11:06.

When I read NUB's attack on my moderating, I reacted poorly and decided that I would just let it sit there for a little while because after all, no-one had even bothered to hit the report button, and I felt that I was being called out unfairly.

I also knew that as soon as I took the action that I had intended that NUB would then claim that the only reason I had taken action was because he had called me out publicly. Which is exactly what he did.

Northman did report a post in that thread from AS7, but at 5:19 that evening.

I went back for a week prior to this and there was only one single reported post from a member of the board regarding AS7, and that was a member asking us to check IP addresses to see if this was a banned user with a duplicate account. So. .. here we are discussing trolls that we do nothing about and prior to this incident just one single poster had reported them, and then only for asking us to check IP's (which we did, and there was no duplicate account). Indeed, NUB himself had not reported the posts that he was complaining about which is the requested protocol, and ensures that every Moderator is notified about the posts immediately.

So. I handled it poorly, and I apologize. I should have taken care of the posts immediately without worrying that NUB would claim credit for correcting bad moderation.

Also, I think that this points out how difficult it becomes to moderate when no-one reports problems. AS7 had not really been reported by any member prior to this blow-up.

Man, NUB is really in your head. If he has that kind of ability to control your actions, your wife must have your balls in a vice.

Is that the best you could do in two hours time? I'm disappointed. No wonder you're not a Horsemen. They had 5X the response within 10 minutes.

Not so sure in ones head is correct..

there are problem posters we all know that.. not saying NUB is one but we walk a fine line as mods not everything is totally black or white..

and with eh amount of mini smack that goes on around here sometimes we do not known if a comment was in jest (mini smack) or if something else is going on..

If we are not in the thread alot and just pop in to see what is going on sometimes we have to read the previous couple of pages to get a feel for what has been said by whom and it may be fallout from another thread out there that happens 3 days ago..

So is everything black and white to us.. NO it is not.. It may be to YOU or the other party that is getting nailed but it take a while to figure out what was joking around and what is getting close to hold on..

Since none of us do this for a living and we are usually at t work trying to keep food in out families mouths the JOB comes first.. and if a call comes in while I'm typing this guess what it waits till I get back.. Fact of life folks.. do not ask more from us mods than you would from your self..

we b swimming as fast as we can sometime

Lots of those times it would be better to close a thread let things cools down and edit it.. but then the maroons move to another thread and carry it there..

so if Y'all are expecting perfection, time to move to another forum and be disappointed there also....

We do still have an ignore button, right?

I mean, mods can't use it but all non-mods can choose what posts they read, right?

And NTL has already pointed out the nifty report button.

I guess I'm confused as to why posters feel mods have as much time to read every single ridiculous post on this board as those posters do.

Report trollish posts. That's what gets mods to spring into the action you seem to desire so much. If mods tell you that you have a weak stomach and there's nothing wrong, suck it up, or hit the ignore button for a week and see if it improves your disposition.

Personal responsibility, people - take some.

When you say lax modding - should the posted rules be - some modified, some deleted? If not, I do not know how lax modding will work - i.e.even though one of the posted rules has been violated, nothing is to be done, or sometimes modded to, sometimes not?

You are right. You should have jumped on that. If NUB would have claimed it
was because he called you out publicly, the response should have been,
exactly because calling out mods publicly is taboo . . . or at least it was when
    I was moderating.

Nonetheless, that should not be tolerated. Ever. Take it up with that mod via
PM. Appeal to the other mods or Admin. But keep it off the boards.

As stated, NTL was in the topic. If he wasn't I probably would have reported it but seeing him in it gave me the idea that he was going to take care of it. Of course, had I known NTL was taking a phone call or something I wouldn't have "baited" him into modding, but that was information I did not have.

Can't say I'm gonna apologize for any of it. It'd be dishonest of me because I would ultimately do it all again given the same scenario. I felt I was making a point, particularly in calling NTL what I did, and would easily repeat it were, from my perspective, a mod not doing anything with that kind of trolling floating around.
