A quick Prog note. I run several times a week and recently I've been running to Wind and the Wuthering (I don't care if it's a Phil album, it's an exceptional work). 50 minutes of bliss. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

I really enjoy Porcupine Tree. They've been getting a boatload of airtime at the house. I'm trying to let Mars Volta grow on me, unsuccessfully so far.

I had an hour to kill. I dusted off the full recording of King Crimson's Red. An hour well spent.

80% agreed. "Providence" is a grating screeching mess, but the rest is superb. On my top 5 all time list, easily, even with that 10+ minute waste of time on it

Providence is followed by Starless. Starless allows me to forgive Providence, and to me was really one of the last great prog songs of that era (Cinema Show being another). As you mentioned earlier things start to change after 74.

Of course the downside of being creative and taking chances is that you get some really awful stuff from time to time; I defy most anyone to sit through the entire 12 or so minutes of "Providence" off of King Crimson's otherwise superb album "Red." Its 12 minutes of pure grating Hell that just seems to last a whole lot longer
it's just not a good idea to name bands after geographical locations. I think there was a band called Europe at one time, Berlin, just to name a few I am sure

I love this thread. If I didn't mention it before, PT's In Absentia is a wonderful piece. Thanks for the recommend.

My step-brother turned me on to Porcupine Tree and another English group called Ozric Tentacles about 8 or 9 years ago. He gave me Signify and Deadwing on the same day that he gave me this Best Of double CD of Ozric Tentacles.

Give this a try Dread, see if you like it....
