    Default Operation: Poetry

I personally over the years have fallen in love with writing, and I know the old thread Rhyme O' Times was a big hit for awhile, though in recent times I had posted and no one else was contributing. I expect more from here on out.

So here's the thread to put your epics or your ditties, your poems and raps, your haiku's and your verses, your limericks and your rhymes.

I'll start it with an old one of mine...

    Ghosts
The wall, now cracked and old,
    Crumbling day to day,
    Standing not so bold,
As with the entire town’s decay.

The porch, worn, rotting and tattered,
    Wrapping around the abode,
    The windows gone, shattered,
All seen from a winding dirt road.

    A road scarcely traveled,
    A town rarely seen,
With so many secrets to be unraveled.
Forgotten, old, rotting, unclean… but more goes unseen

The whispers in the rotten walls,
The tip-toes on the broken steps,
A creak as each footstep falls,
A stain for every tear a child wept.

The knock on every hinge-less door,
The laughter as the swing out front sways,
A child having fun, but wanting even more
A call from his mom that ends the fun today

The cooling breeze, walking to his mom,
The distraction of a great and towering tree,
A call from it is strong but calm,
As he walks to the swaying branches in his glee

But now the tree is dead and gloomy,
    What happened to this town,
    In all its simplistic beauty,
Now just old, torn walls to be found.

The brown haired mutt lying on the porch,
    A glimmer in its eyes,
    Raising its head,
Straining to hear the old man’s sighs

The man rocking gently in his chair,
    His sighs are snores,
Waking to feel the breeze stiffen through his thinning hair,
As he pats his dog, rain begins to pour

The man stands up and goes inside,
He opens the screen, the door,
To show where the dog and he reside,
A humble home needing nothing more.

    Now an empty shack,
No longer glowing with warmth and love,
Now cold and grey, except the coal so black,
The crows as black replacing fluttering doves.

The whispers in the walls not seen,
As the stains on the steps aren’t heard,
As the homes have lost their people, thus their gleam,
But those forgotten still find a way to speak their words,

    Spoken is the abandonment,
And in a soft reply, nature works its course each day,
    To fulfill their sentiment,
    In a separate way.

    Default Vivé la Rhyme!

As long as we're willing to create,
To exchange our poems and relate,
This thread will go on for a long, long while,
Someone will post, and do it in style.

Been too busy to sit and dream up things,
My mind starts to work, then the telephone rings,
I'll go somewhere quiet and work on a verse,
But something's gone wrong somewhere, and it's getting only worse.

So I come back and read the genius of my peers,
I read the beauty, the sadness, the joys, and the fears,
And I realize these are more than just words in a post,
I must dare to share, and for a moment I'm the host.

You can find most anything here, in more than one forum,
But this thread is where you'll find the most in decorum,
Oh, as long as I'm around, I'll make sure this thread will live,
I've taken so much in here, I've no choice but to give.

    School's been harsh
    Worried about tests
    Running after
Darn tired the past few days
Been meaning to write some poems
But the time just seems to drift away
    I'm feeling lucky
That I've got my friends, my fam
    My smarts and laughter
    But I'm missing my writing.
    Wrote a poem in English,
    But giving me a topic
    Is not the same
    As in just random delighting
    Recalling a dream
    Knowing emotion
    Wanting to scream
    In glee or frustration
    Or holding it in
To let it out in a slew of words
That make no sense to me or to you
Or maybe in some backwards way they do...
    I'm so tired right now
    From cross country running
    That my brain is done...
    Sorry but it's true
    What a long, long run
    Assured to you tomorrow,
    Those to-be-done-another-day poems
    Started last week
    Will be recieving my brainpower
    As the homework is light
    And I'll tweak them up
    To share with you
    When they are just right

    (hehe)

    Default I'll Never Forget . . .

It's been years since I've seen you,
    My lifelong friend,
    But the distance cannot threaten
    A friendship without end.

    I remember the days
    We walked around the track
Sharing our joys and our fears thru laughter and tears,
As we reached to bring our mem'ries back.

We knew the day was coming
When we went our separate ways,
But we knew we would meet again,
We both would count the days.

Now here I am with thoughts of you,
Our lives across me flashing past,
I could never have imagined the sorrow I feel,
Yet with the joy of knowing I'll see you again,
When my life, too, is past.

Top and T... you are both very good poets. I will post a few when I get some more, but the ones I have written are either at home, terrible, or both lol.

Practicing poetry and reading expands vocab, and I enjoy doing both of these things, so

Oh I know she does... I always tried to convince her to post more on BMania, once I found out that she wrote poetry, but I never really knew about the Rhymes O' the Times thread, so I always wanted her to make a new thread for each poem lol.

T- that is a very good point lol.

    Default To love a story...

    Stories

    Not the simplest day
    to recall my forever’s
    my currents
    my future endeavors
    For shadows and demons
keep my thoughts to the ground
    for thoughts are fear
    when all is not found
    But I’m lost in these
    anyways. Not for longing
    or to mis-remember
    Amidst all the world’s wrongings
    Its all for nothing.
In worlds of thunderstorms, I am pained
    where fear of being struck
keeps from pleasure in the rain
    Stranger then,
when tiger pounces on a boy
leaving men to meander about the facts
    to the bookworm’s only joy
    The storms rage on,
leaving them, walking in the rain,
to cry for the stories of those gone,
fearing for the absent blood stain
worse than that is the memory of
all that is passed, told on and on
in a tale of passion or love
in a legend so real of the past heroes gone
    the magic of the story
    of the knowledge and venture
of the tiger’s crimson bright glory
lifts my head above the clouds
as the world runs by, heels to the ground
the tales of quest purify the hearts
remember a time without world’s hectic sounds
to strengthen a spirit, to uplift man

    Default Respect . . .

    I respect my elders.
Always have and still do, even at my present age.
That is the way I was raised.

    I respect authority.
That includes those in office, police, my bosses, and my pastors.
That is the way I was raised.

    I respect my siblings.
They have the same genes. They are part of me.
That is the way I was raised.

I respect my friends, my neighbors, and my co-workers.
That is the way I was raised.

I respect the stranger on the street.
That is the way I was raised.

I carry the ultimate respect for my God and my country.
That is the way I was raised.

I respect my parents, even though they have moved on.
They are the ones who raised me that way.
