    Oakland

Top pick Darrius Heyward-Bey dropped three straight passes Saturday.

My take: I was at Oakland's minicamp Friday and Heyward-Bey looked decent. Saturday, though, his college problems crept back into his game. It is clear Heyward-Bey is not a finished product. He has some maturing to do as a player. But Oakland fans shouldn't fret yet. This is just a minicamp. After all, it's better to see dropped passes in May than it is in October.

exactly-- if he can't catch the ball when they make it easy, how's he going to do it when the DBs are actually playing press coverage and looking to lay big hits?
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

Which is why we're talking about practice. And the second day. Bey was pretty solid his first day. You do know that Jerry Rice sucked out the gates, right. That's the WR benchmark that shows that anyone can drop passes early in their career, game or otherwise.

Jaws actually likes the selection of Darrius Heyward-Bey. He did rate Michael Crabtree slightly higher, but he said it really depends on how you project your WR into your offense. He also said the criticisms of poor catching ability are overblown.

I respect Ron Jaworski's insights, so it wouldn't surprise me if Heyward-Bey does become really good.

I do find it funny how big this news was, just three passes in a Saturday practice in May...
