Car vs Motorcycle
Car stalled in the side of the road and someone pulled out in front of me as they were turning left. I had zero time to react. Last thing I remember was grabbing every brake I had and thinking "it's gonna be bad, just not sure how bad" then the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital.
They estimate i was going 35-45mph, which makes sense, it was a 45mph zone.
All scans came back good. I definitely had a pretty bad concussion. Knee is fubar, not sure the extent, I'll get an MRI in the next couple of weeks unless by some miracle it just starts getting much better(highly doubting that, I have some experience with knee injuries and this one ain't good)
As bad as it was, I was wearing my helmet and I'm alive and whole. Yes my knee is not great, my shoulder still hurts and my ribs are painful but by this time next year if the worst that comes of it is I have a limp in my left knee that matches the one in my right knee, I'll consider it a win compared to what it could have been.
If nothing else this absolutely reinforces my already steadfast belief in helmets. Before this I would say I wore a helmet about 98% of the time with the rare exception being times when I was just riding around my neighborhood or going to my buddies house for Poker about a half mile away. That kind of shit, well that will never happen again. If im on one of my bikes and it's moving, I'll be in a helmet. This would have been so much worse without that chunk of plastic on my head. Including a better than 20% chance that I'm not here to write this today.
This happened on Dec. 28th.
Bike is totalled. This happened on my little Toyal Enfield adventure bike, not my harley and thank goodness for that. Not only would totalling my harley crush me emotionally. The added weight of the bike probably would have made the crash a lot worse.
Moral of the story, live life have fun but wear your ******* helmet so when shit does go wonky you'll at least live to ride another day.
Can't wait till I can ride again.
