Some switch flipped for him midway through his career. I'm convinced it wasn't just scheme and opportunities, though I'm sure McD didn't do him any favors.

He had 2200 yards from scrimmage and 17 TDs in his first two years. It was as the game was changing to the pass heavy game it is now and he didn’t rush for 1,000 yards so he was a “bust” in people’s minds.
Injuries derailed his 2011 and 2012 season, but then he went for 1500 yards and 13 TDs in 2013.
