Dumb question: If the HC is suspended for the year, and the GM is suspended for half a year, and the assistant HC is suspended for six games; who the hell is supposed to be running the team? Are they going to announce a temporary HC for the year? Or just have an acting HC? This isn't the same as someone stepping in for a month or two at the end of a season because the old HC got fired.

I suspect the Saints will have to hire some new coaches because the OC is going to look very lonely on the sidelines otherwise. Another hidden penalty - salaries for interim coaches.
I miss the old Mile High Stadium.

Well, just shows coaches arent above reproach and shouldnt be. Goodell takes this shit seriously if we havent seen already before this.

I'll bet the Steelers are worried that they may actually have to compete now ...

Extraordinarily severe punishment--but this is just a ridiculous story. "Cartoffs" worth "x" dollars, etc. -- you can't have that in 2012.

Huge story because Payton is one hell of a coach but the punishment HAD to be huge. NFL had no choice really.

I must be pretty dumb too, because that's exactly what I was thinking. Another question, if all of these suspensions start April 1st, who’s going to show up to represent the Saints at the draft?

I still think they should have revoked their franchise tag. That way Brees could go where he wants.

I thought they got a steep enough penalty.

Entirely too severe IMO. Yes they should've been hammered, but this didn't give a competitive advantage. I mean, let's be honest, the defense isn't working any harder for a couple grand. It's not as if they were taping practices, defensive signs, or a Super Bowl walk through, etc.

They should have been punished, not crippled. Goodell went to far.

No, Goodell just didn't go far enough with the Pats.

So for the record, you're stating that both the Pats AND Broncos should have been punished at least this severely?

Let's not forget our own McScandal...

I think crippling a team goes too far

The reason for the severity is that the program continued after they had been told to stop it, and on top of that, they continued to lie about its existence.

They basically told Gooddell to **** off with their actions, and so he dropped the hammer.
