    Default Beanie blows off Broncos

Not trying to steal Elevations thunder here (he posted it first) but thought it was thread worthy in the Draft forum.

    Beanie no-show.

Whatever interest the Broncos had in Chris "Beanie" Wells figures to diminish after the Ohio State running back missed his flight and didn't show for his scheduled visit to Dove Valley.

Wells is generally regarded as the second-best tailback prospect in the upcoming NFL draft, behind Georgia's Knowshon Moreno. The Broncos may have been considering Wells with the 18th overall pick.

Mike Klis contributed to this report.

Beanie’s Agent Explains Broncos Blow Off
Posted by Mike Florio on April 9, 2009, 8:10 a.m.
We were told last night that Ohio State running back Chris “Beanie” Wells didn’t show for his Wednesday visit with the Broncos because he missed his flight.

Adam Heller of DeBartolo Sports Agency has supplied the player’s side of the story.

“Beanie was scheduled to be in Denver yesterday for a short ‘in and out’ visit with the Broncos,” Heller told us via e-mail. “Per his flight itinerary, he was getting in at 9:33 AM and then leaving for Arizona [at] 3:00.

“The flight to Denver was delayed due to mechanical issues so it made the Broncos visit impossible. However, because is was still the best way to get to [Arizona], Beanie took the flight, went through Denver and then got on his flight to Arizona and is there now. The Broncos were aware of the flight delay.”

We appreciate the explanation, but the chain of events suggests that Wells prefers the Cardinals to the Broncos. Or Wells would have stayed in Denver and taken a later flight to Arizona.

Wells was in Denver. And instead of finding a way to visit the Broncos and then head to Phoenix, Wells jumped a plane to Arizona.

Frankly, Wells probably made the smarter move. The Cardinals are widely regarded as looking for a running back in round one; for the Broncos, who signed at last count 13 free-agent tailbacks, more pressing needs arise elsewhere.

No loss, i dont want us to draft him anyway. We have bigger needs than RB right now.

well if it was intentional he is an idiot. No way he makes it to the 31st pick in the draft to the cards. Someone will take him before then. ANd i dont think the cards will trade up that high to get him.
    The Plan at the moment:

Draft: Trade a 3rd and 6th this year to a team to move up and get a 2nd next year (this will happen).

    Players I want:
Jake Ferguson (Jake Butt) or Jelani Woods or Jeremy Ruckert or Cade Otten (owen daniels) at TE- All 4th rd or later.
Troy Anderson LB 3rd/4th rd (yay Timmy!)
Neil Farrell, JR DL- run stuffer- bye purcell

Damn he has a legitimate excuse. I was hoping he really blew us off so that we definitely don't draft him.

Big deal. He's just another glass back. We had plenty of those last year.

I hope we don't draft Chris Wells.

seriously you guys i want all defense but we can draft a RB at 18 and still go defense 5 of our first 6 picks.

your kidding yourselves if you think moreno or donald brown wont electrify this team.....

I don't think Wells is a target. Moreno fits McD type of RB better. I think Moreno would be a good pickup.

Donald Brown is my favorite RB in this draft. He's not flashy and doesn't have a big name, but he does everything well and simply produces. He reminds me of Matt Forte. I wouldn't mind trading back from 18 a few slots and snagging Brown.

Not only that but a good back will keep the D off the field and will help put up redzone points....both things we have failed at over the last 3 seasons with Mike's 7th round RBBC.

Hillis seems like the type of RB that McD would like but I don't think he thinks that because Hillis was listed on the trading block wasn't he? He can catch the ball really well, run/pass block, and is a bruising runner. Not fast but will grind it out. I wonder what McD thinks

    Exactamundo!

The RB will get us our redzone tds! Which we couldnt hack last year with our pansy RBs' who cant break an arm tackle.

    -----

Moreno is 100% Mcd type RB, catch, run, juke, pound for a td.

Wells is 100% rb coach Turner type RB- big, strong, fast. And we know turner knows his RBs well.

Either would be great for us, but i like moreno as he doesnt have injury problems (even though the way he runs sets himself up for some big ones) like wells does. However, they also said that AP was glass and always hurt. I dont know any team right now that wouldnt mind trading a #1 for him.

So to me both would be HUGE upgrades and help out our team more than most think. But i like moreno best.

I'd take Moreno over any back in the 2009 draft class. But the reason we need to go defense in the first couple of rounds is because we have no talent there. The most talented and pro-ready players are drafted within the first 3 rounds, while some are overlooked and fall down into the mid-to late rounds.

If anything, I would go defense with our first 4 picks and grab Rashad Jennings with our extra 3rd round pick...or maybe even Javon Ringer.

People really underestimate Peyton Hillis' speed and athleticism. If you go back to the Miami game, look at Eddie Royal's monstrous kickoff return that nearly went for a touchdown. Peyton Hillis was Eddie Royal's lead blocker in that return for like 30+ yards. He can run even though he isn't shifty.

nobody said they wouldnt..... but RB isnt our biggest need right now, our RB by committee worked last year, lets keep that until next year, work on defense this year
