Thread: broncohead's Mock

  1. #1

    Default broncohead's Mock

1a. E. Brown OLB- What this team is lacking most on defense is a dynamic pass rushing OLB. We don't have any proven OLBs on the roster and even though Brown isn't he'll add competition and depth. Also Orakpo will be gone by this pick who would be my first option.

1b. S. Moreno RB- In an ideal situation Tyson Jackson falls here but he won't make it past San Diego. Rey M. could also be a possibility but Moreno will take pressure off of the QB. He is also the type of RB McD likes. A good pass catcher that can pass block.

    2. J Gilbert DE- Lets not kid ourselves Ron Brace will not be here when we pick so we go with the next best option. No doubt DE is a need. Gilbert adds a possible starter or depth at a weak position.

3a. J. Brinkley ILB- We have Larsen, Davis, and posibly DJ in the middle. We need to add another ILB for depth. He will also allow the defense to be versitile by moving DJ inside or keeping him outside.

3b. C. Baker NT- Raji would be ideal in the 1st and Brace in the 2nd but they will both be gone before we pick so we grab Baker in the 3rd.

    4. B. Gibson WR- Depth at WR will be important early because we don't know how long Marshall will get suspendid. Gibson is a solid WR with good production in his last 3 years. He will most likely challenge for the 3rd WR position.

    5. S. Hill NT/DE- Another big body in the middle will add competition. For being a tall player he may have trouble getting propper leverage so he could play DE as well.

    6. A. Kemp OG- Hamilton is getting older and depth on the OL is lacking at guard. McD is adding man blocking to the running game and Kemp could benifit from that.

7a. W. Johnson DE- Impressive workouts. It's a potential pick but what pick isn't in the 7th?

7b. S. Norris OLB- Athletic player could surprise.

This would be a good draft imo. We address most of the needs on both sides of the ball. I didn't pick a safety because with such a deep class next year and with 2 1st rd. picks we should be able to grab one. I think Moreno is the perfect RB for McD scheme. After hearing his take on the signing of the RBs in FA it fits Moreno to a T. This is my last mock. We'll see what happens on draft day.

This would be a good draft. The only complaint I would have is that I think of Brown as more of a WOLB than a SOLB where our biggest LB hole is.

Though I do agree with you an OLB in a 3-4 doesn't need to be as good against the run as in the 4-3 which he has played in. I believe he will do a decent job against the run in a 3-4.

Jarron Gilbert will be drafted before Ron Brace.

I like the mock a lot though... I'd love if they come out of the first day with Everette Brown, Knowshon Moreno, and Jarron Gilbert.

That wasn't my point. The SOLB has duties in coverage that I don't think play to Moss and DOOM's strengths. Bailey when he's healthy does but he's a question mark. Of course this does depend on which version of the 3-4 we run.

not bad however i doubt gilbert is around for pick 48, also brinkley at ILB crowds a already crowded ILB core, so i question using valuable 3rd rd picks, but while ILB depth is a need perhaps 4th rd or later is better. we really need a young FS on this team like really bad, hill has had 1 good year in the last 3 and dawkins can not play FS effectively any longer he is a box guy now.....barret also takes horrible angles from so far back, so he doesnt fit FS well either, the rest are scrubs.

FS is a big part of the 3-4 in fact its more important than 5 technique DE and ILB......he is the last line. someone like william moore/rashad johnson/sean smith/sherrod martin/chris clemons in rd 2 would allow a DE/DT hybrid like Dorrell scott or alex magee for hybrid looks and give us more versatility.

I also belive brandon gibson will go in the second rd, he runs routes and seperates as good as eddie royal coming out, scouts will see that and bite, especially since those 2 traits are paramount to early success in the pros....

i love patrick chung but he is a SS, we have 2 in barrett and dawkins, we only have 1 half viable FS in hill, FS is the greater need.....however i wouldnt be mad if we drafted chung, but i do not belive barret has what it takes to play FS long term......

The reason I didn't take a safety was because I'm thinking ahead to next year with the 2 firsts. We need to solidify the front 7 then next year when that position is stacked we can get a good safety and still have another first. I wasn't sure where Gibson was slotted to go. I didn't find any scouting reports where he should be projected.

I was going to put Rey in that slot but thought about what McD said about how he likes the RBs and Moreno fits that perfectly. Also Moreno will take a lot of pressure off of Orton.

if we dont get a young capable free safety and hill goes down...he is over 30

we will be forced to go waiver wire searching again for clavin lowry's, do you really want that. you can still fix the front seven, but your kidding yourself if you dont think FS is a high need for this team.....we have a 36 year old safety, a 31 year old safety, a youthful rookie that cant play FS effectively and loses focus way to much in games, plus a coupel waiver wire bums....i would say FS is as big a need as any.....

I never said it wasn't a need. We may barely make it to the playoffs but we would be lucky. With that said we can wait till next year to grab one of the dominating safeties

4 picks where dedicated to the DL. Also what has Moss done in the NFL to make you think he will do anything? Brown hasn't done anything either but it adds competition and depth.
