The reason #64 is at the top of Clint Hurdle's lineup card

DENVER – Some have called it luck, others say it's a miracle that the Colorado Rockies have won 21 of their last 22 games. The Blakeman family has a different take. They believe their son has something to do with it.

"His baseball number was 21, and the Rockies have won 21 of 22 games," said Joanna Blakeman. "It's not some crazy luck thing."

Two years ago, The Blakemans found out their son had a rare form of cancer.

"There have only been 100 people diagnosed," said Joanna.

The Blakemans lost Kyle in August, just about the same time the Rockies' luck seemed to be turning around.

Kyle Blakeman was a huge Rockies fan, and Manager Clint Hurdle was a huge Kyle Blakeman fan. The two became friends when the teen was diagnosed with cancer.

"He asked Kyle for a lucky number in the hospital a few days before Kyle passed away and Kyle gave him his football number, which is 64. And he (Hurdle) started writing it on the top of his lineup card," said Joanna. "They didn't win every game after that, but almost every game."

On Monday night, at the start of Game 4 of the NLCS, Kyle's sister Macie threw out the first pitch. The family watched from the stands as the Rockies completed the sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"You just have to smile and go with it and say, 'Wow this is really fantastic. It's so fantastic,'" said Joanna.

You can call it luck, but maybe it actually was Kyle. The number 64 was once again at the top of the lineup.

"They won the game last night 6 to 4. Six runs in the fourth inning," said Joanna and her husband Brad.

"There are moments when we think, 'Wow, this is happening and he's not here,' and then at the same time it's like, 'Yeah he is. He knows.' And maybe he's making it happen, who knows?" said Joanna.

The Blakemans say they will continue to root for the Rockies, and maybe the next time the team wins, they hope people will think of Kyle.
