Default Former NY Mets pitcher Taylor Buchholz stares down his depression

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - The best middle relief pitcher the New York Mets had early last year is standing behind three makeshift mounds in a familiar gym, his new charges eager to show him what they’ve got. He helps one kid with his arm slot, another with his weight transfer. He dispenses advice and encouragement with a soft voice and a boyish face, even with a new beard coming in.

He has counsel that could have a much more far-reaching impact, but will hold off on that until later in the season.

“I want to teach them how to relax,” Taylor Buchholz says. “I know when I was at my best, I was relaxed out there. That’s when I had the best focus.”
