We are on the brink of a playoff spot this year, and much like the broncos this season, it may come down to the last game on whether we make the playoffs or not. Right now, we are fighting for 8th place and the final and last playoff spot. This team is in a 5 team race for the final 2 playoff spots.

San Jose 71 points -- 7th place
Dallas 68 points--- 8th place
Avs 68 Points-- 9th place
Flames 66 points -- 10th place
L.A 66 Points-- 11th place

The major push by L.A in aquiring the old franchise faces of Philly in Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards really made a statement in the west. Both of these players when paired up have scored in bunches. When not together, they struggled to score and develop chemistry. This may be the move L.A needed to protect its investment in Mike Richards. They signed massive deals of 58 Million, (Jeff Carter) and 69 Million, (Mike Richards) when with Philly, and after those massive contracts were signed, L.A ends up picking up the rest of the tab in the end.

The Avs have some options to move some players, and quite possibly amping up another teams farm team for developing young prospects. This option still carries some weight. Even though, Steve Downie was an added grit to the line up, we don't have to many options to other then move players like Evan Brophy and Hugh Jesseman along with our 1, second round pick left, and maybe a 3rd pick in next years draft. What does that buy us? Who are some of the available players that may fit our needs?

Some of our needs are a tough left winger with a good scoring touch. Who can become a reliable second line player. Right now, our Left Wingers after G.Landeskog fall off in talent level, and really off the map. Dan Winnik who has 18 points in 63 games, and TJ Galardi who has 14 points in 55 games are the next top avalable Left Wingers. We need a natural Left Winger to come in and take over the duties, and this is a major need for the 2nd Line, and major push towards the playoffs.

In all likely hood, the Avs are done dealing, and have made their final push towards the playoffs after Downie.
