Darth Vader actor battles prostate cancer

David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in "Star Wars," has prostate cancer

Prowse says he is undergoing radiotherapy at hospital in south London
Actor said every man over 50 should have a blood test for prostate cancer
LONDON, England (CNN) -- David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars" films, has revealed he is suffering from prostate cancer but is still feeling "fantastic."

Prowse, who wore the black suit and helmet to play the Dark Lord of the Sith, told a British radio station he had been undergoing radiotherapy at a hospital in south London and was helping its fundraising appeal.

"I'm involved with the Royal Marsden Hospital appeal because I'm undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, would you believe," he told Absolute Radio. "I'm having my very last treatment this morning."

"I've had two months' radiotherapy treatment at the Royal Marsden. It's the most fantastic hospital you could ever wish to go to."

James Earl Jones did the voice for Vader, Luke Skywalker's father, (and also for CNN promotional links) in the films as Prowse's western English accent was thought to be unsuitable for the part.

Prowse, 73, added he was fighting the disease. "The only thing I've had is hot flushes and my wife tells me I'm going menopausal," he said. "It's amazing what can be done so long as you catch it early."

"Every man over the age of 50 should have a PSA test (a blood test for prostate cancer) and that just gives you some indication of whether you have prostate problems."

I thought it was James Earl Jones doing Darth?? Or was he doing CNN? I'm always getting them confused.

In total, 4 different actors played Vader....................Prowse was the body, James Earl Jones the voice in the original trilogy, and Sebastian Shaw provided the face for the finale of ROTJ. Hayden Christiansen took on the armour for Revenge of the Sith, and also replaced Shaw for the shot of Yoda, Obi-Wan & Anakin in the digitaly remastered (2004) DVD release of ROTJ.............

They need to get 2-1B to prescribe a course of bacta treatment

Seriously, best of luck to him, hope the treatment works out OK

David Prowse was kinda angry at George Lucas during Empire Strikes Back because he was given false lines to speak during the duel at bespin where Vader reveiled that he was luke's father. Only Hamil, Lucas and one other guy knew the true script that was read by James Earl Jones....

.....so a vast majority the crew and cast didn't know about this plot twist until the screening of the movie.

Best of luck to Lord Vader and I hope he recovers.

ROTJ was like my least favorite SW movie. Damned Lucas realized he had a cash cow with toy merchandise from the cutesy stuff, Ewoks in ROTJ and Jarjar in TPM. The worst two aspects of SW in my opinion.
