in a "gun to your head, have to choose" type of scenario, i could narrow it down to bob marley's songs of freedom box set being my favorite collection of music. . . choosing a single favorite album? yea, right. . .

i can maybe squeeze it down to an all-time top-five, since the proper exclusion of compilations gets rid of a lot of my very favorite CDs over the years. . . let's see. . .

public enemy - fear of a black planet
dela soul - stakes is high
    burning spear - hail H.I.M.
    the pixies - doolittle
    jane's addiction - nothing's shocking

    miles davis - bitches brew
    pink floyd - meddle
the beatles - the white album
    peter gabriel - us
sublime - 40 oz to freedom
    funkadelic - maggot brain

Bitches Brew isn't my favorite Davis composition but Miles Runs the Voodoo Down is one of my, if not favorite track.

I don't think Superunknown has been mentioned. That was a brilliant album. Maybe more influential to overall rock genre than any other grunge album, with maybe the exception of Ten.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

Agreed. I still can't believe I get to see Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails at Red Rocks in just a few months. I make it a point to see my favorites every chance I get, but especially at THAT venue. Plus you never know when they will "retire" again!

Coming of age in the grunge scene was weird for me. I could never really get into Nirvana outside of Nevermind, and the only Pearl Jam album I liked besides Ten was Vitalogy of all things. I was more into the Industrial or Heavier stuff like NIN and Soundgarden or what the what I consider Prog-Rock of the Smashing Pumpkins. Then when the London scene blew up with Oasis, Blur, Suede, etc. I started digging up old stuff at record stores like The Stone Roses.

Alas I am officially at that age where hardly any new music makes me care. I like things like Arcade Fire but I do miss rummaging through record stores for b-sides of my favorite bands. Pandora is a godsend for finding newer music for me that I can tolerate though. It does a pretty good job of finding similar songs in the genres I like.

When this thread popped up a year or two ago - I never listened to Radiohead. Shortly after I picked up Kid A. Since then I've become a complete junkie. Many thanks to those that listed them.

OK Computer and Kid A are my favorites. Their newer stuff is a little too out there for me but I like the atmospheric music they produce.

Kid A is still near the bottom of my Radiohead album rankings.

In Rainbows > Amnesiac > King of Limbs > OK Computer > Hail to the Thief > Kid A > The Bends

I've never even listened to that one. I'll remember to put it in rotation next time I need to write a paper.
