Default 10/13 Matchups/Prospects To Keep An Eye On

OK, Im DVRing Syracuse-Rutgers as it has a few prospects of interest. Pedro Sosa, Jeremy Zuttah, Jameel McClain, and Joe Fields.
Here are some matchups of interest (feel free to add):

I think Im also going to DVR the Oregon State - Cal game. That has some interesting prospects as well. More specifically, Ill be wanting to watch Mike Gibson, Roy Schuening, Craig Stevens, and Thomas DeCoud

The Georgia Tech- Miami and the Virginia Tech-Duke games also have some interesting prospects.

I've been watching the Illinois/Iowa game to get some information on some day two defensive players on the defensive front.

You got Norwell (DT) and Leman (ILB) on Illinois and they've done okay. Norwell doesn't get a lot of hype, and hasn't been impressive as he was when he was a junior - but he does well at getting to his gap and getting in the backfield to force throws, or make plays against the run. I'd take Norwell on Day 2 if we were looking for a stout POA guy with a large frame.

Iowa has Iwebema (DE) that could be a nice pass rush specialist, but not an every down starter. Just seems to lack that consistent motor, and seems to get tired too often. He has some good pass rush moves though, and if he came in fresh he could make a difference. I don't think we need another defensive end, but he'd be nice value on the second day. They have Klickenborg too at the ILB, but I don't think he's necessarily the kind of guy I'd want on this defense. He'd probably be better being inside in a scheme like San Diego's.

The game is heating up right now, so I'll see if Iowa's defense steps up with a minute to go.

Hah, as soon as I saw that Iwebema get some fantastic push on the LT for Illinois, pushes him into the QB's throwing lane into the QB and it was a pick in the endzone. Iowa's ball, and a likely win.

Ive been mainly watching the GT-Miami game. I like Mike Cox as a FB but he may not be what we want as a receiving threat. Im still kind of meh on Phillip Wheeler. He may be OK as a OLB but Id rather have someone who provides more of a physical presence on the inside. Kenny Phillips really reads the play well. I like Willie Cooper as a day 2 guy. He is a S/LB tweener. I also have started to watch Guyton from GT more.

I think if Wheeler goes to 4-3 team, he'll probably move to the weakside. He has the speed and lateral movement to do it. I'll watch the last two minutes of the game on ESPN and see how it goes. Maybe Phillips will come up big here.

I really wouldn't mind Tashard Choice as one of the senior backs Denver could look at if they go that route pending the Henry suspension. He's a jack of all trades guy. How did he do today? Nevermind, I just saw. He's been raping top competition in Clemson, Maryland and Miami the past three weeks. . . about five hundred yards!

I wouldnt say raping. In both the Clemson and Maryland games he bad less than 5.0 YPC in both. Yeah, he is getting yards but hes also getting the ball a lot. I agree though that he looks good.

OK, Ive watched the Rutgers-Syracuse game. Jeremy Zuttah had a great game and it was at the expense of Jameel McClain in a lot of cases. Zuttah was very impressive with how he was able to lock on a linebacker. If we can take him in Rd 4, we definitely should do it.

Also, Joe Fields had a good game but not a great game. He just didnt see a lot of action. But he was able to play off his guy and help in the running game. He is a very solid tackler and is more likely to go for the safe tackle than the highlight real blow up hit, which I like. I really like him as a late pick. I think he could have great value in later rounds. He is relatively new on the defensive side having recently converted from QB. I like the fact that he's an ex QB playing on defense.

Ive kind of cooled off on Jameel McClain. He didnt read the play as fast as I wouldve hoped and he also had Zuttah taking him out of a lot of plays. He did OK, but he seems more like a project.

I think Zuttah is going to have to be a guard in the NFL, but I like his versatility.
