Default 2012 Free Agency news and notes

[OG Carl] Nicks will be especially difficult to keep on a long-term deal because the Saints have already paid huge money for Jahri Evans and Nicks is viewed as one of the very best guards in football. Retaining Nicks on a one-year deal would be ideal, but it won’t be possible unless Brees’ contract is worked out quickly.

Nicks is “expected to leave” town, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

I don't think we need to pay a guard the big money unless Kuper can't come back. Bring in a tackle, move Franklin to LG and our O-line is instantly better at the POA.

i typically agree with that philosophy-- you can find decent guards in the middle rounds of the draft if you know what you're doing. . .

i wasn't posting that because i want us to go after nicks-- just starting a thread for general FA news. . . (FTR, i also wouldn't cry if we did go after him, but i'd rather add an OT). . .

Word is that the Packers are going to use the franchise tag on Finley and let Flynn walk. I wonder which team is going to give this guy 10-12 million per year.

    I like Scott Wells also.

I thought I heard NFL Network say GB would release Driver. True?

I read today that Driver wants to retire at 40 as a GB Packer but would
    play for another team.

Whether he makes up his mind on whether he wants to retire or not, Green Bay will probably cut him. They don't put up with that ish.

No brainer really. It's a violation of the CBA to franchise a player for the sole intention of a sign-and-trade. If Flynn filed a grievance it was a slam dunk he would have won anyway. The reason the Patriots could get away with it because Brady was coming off of knee surgery; Packers don't have any legitimate reason other than to trade him. Not to mention the risk they are playing spending that much money on a backup QB if a trade falls through? Doesn't make sense.

Seattle, Miami, Washington, or Cleveland will sign him.

I want him or chris meyers very badly......I would take konz from wisconsin in the draft in rd 1 also, whatever i can do to get walton the f out of denver....or at least to the bench
    Denver's 2024 George Paton Draft/FA plan

    Draft
    RD1- TE Brock Bowers, GA
    RD3- QB Spencer Rattler, SC
    RD4- CB Josh Newton, TCU
    RD5- S Reggie Pearson, OK
RD5- C Michael Jurgens, Wake Forest
RD6- K Jonah Dalmas, Boise St

    FA

Wells is in his 30's. I like the way he plays, but he's on the back end of his career. Honz would be a great pickup. Centers have been moving up the boards since Mangold was drafted. Honz is the undisputed #1 center in the draft. My guess is that he goes somewhere between 15-20.

You draft a center in the first round ONLY if you have the luxury of doing so. We have WAY too many holes at more skilled positions to draft a center right now

I think Nicks should be DEN No#1 priority.
