shanny used a 3rd round compensatory pick on clarette. Not a throw away 7th rounder.

Miller is coming off his rookie year.

If we had Dawkins in his 11th year as a pro I'd feel fine about my defensive leadership grabbing the dude by the facemask, helping him shape up and become the nasty, dominant player he can be.

We don't, and now that we're well out of range of Kuechly I'm not sure our future MLB is in the draft. Hightower's better suited for a 3-4 IMO, so if we're getting him it's as another 2-down LB like Mays, except we're hoping Hightower guesses less and diagnoses more quickly.

I'd rather get EJ Henderson from the Vikings. He's slowing up a bit too much to survive playing Tampa 2 all the time, but that's not what we do - and I've always liked him as a player and a leader.

That'd give us some time to work on other positions in the draft, positions that are a bit deeper than MLB is this year.

Henderson would be a good signing. He's a solid starter as long as he doesn't break his leg.

Playing well in Cincinnati, Vontaze Burfict thankful for Marvin Lewis

Posted by Michael David Smith on October 8, 2012, 1:50 PM EDT

    AP
Vontaze Burfict has turned out to be one of the pleasant surprises of this NFL season, an undrafted rookie who was widely regarded as a head case coming out of college but has now become a productive starter for the Bengals. And Burfict says Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is the biggest reason for his turnaround.

“It’s been a good journey, since I’ve been under Marvin Lewis’ wing,” Burfict said on XTRA in Phoenix, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “He took me in and he coaches me how I need to be coached. If I mess up twice on one play that he already told me about, he gets to me. He starts yelling at me. But that’s what I need. . . . I love being under his wing because he talks to me like I’m a grown man.”

Not sure if Vontaze will continue to stay out of trouble but his play on the field has been good.

He went undrafted and so far the reward looks to be high for the Bengels. We really could have used a nasty ILB this year too.

You can say hindsight when it's a first rounder but when a guy goes undrafted you don't say that. Remember Vontaze was a projected 1st rounder.

I'm not crowning him at all though....in fact I'm sceptical about his off field issues...but lets see how the kid does the rest of the year.

Old habits die hard and he may relapse, but he's saying all the right things and playing well. Janrious Jenkins had a ton of off-field problems and we haven't heard a peep out of him since the season started. I believe some people can change...unlike DJ Williams' punk ass...

People don't change; they just develop whom they always were. Still, it's more accurate to say ADULTS don't change; kids are still undefined, with a lot of rough edges, and most rookies aren't much more than kids who can buy booze. I didn't realize he went undrafted, and that changes things, 'cos we need a Mike BADLY, and taking an undrafted player risks no more than one roster spot and the rookie minimum wage. It's still too soon to tell if he'll even be worth that much though.

I disagree with your whole thing about people changing.

Maybe one of us will change our mind, but I doubt it.
