Besides, I prefer reading a news agency that actually calls people, and has sources, instead of copying and pasting headlines from around the internet, but hey, that's just me.

    Patriots looking at Hall?
DeAngelo Hall | Redskins | Interested: Patriots?
The Boston Globe reports that the New England Patriots may be looking to add cornerback DeAngelo Hall to their roster if the Washington Redskins are unable to secure him before the free agency period begins tomorrow.

The Patriots' ususally stout defense had issues last season, and according to the Globe, the team ranked 26th out of 32 teams in third down conversion percentage against, and 31st in red zone defense. In addition, the Patriots did express interest in Hall when he was released mid-season by the Oakland Raiders in 2008.

A true "shutdown corner", the flashy Hall would take over as the team's No. 1 cornerback on the depth chart. Although the Patriots' AFC East rivals do not have the electrifying wide receiver options that would necessitate spending a wheelbarrow full of cash on one of the league's elite cornerbacks, Hall would definitely help to contain the likes of Santonio Holmes and Reggie Wayne during an extended playoff run.

Does Green have gas left in the tank?
Trent Green | Rams | Interested: Vikings?
Released by the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday, quarterback Trent Green thinks he still has some good NFL seasons left in him, and will be looking for a new job during the upcoming free-agency period, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Green, who will turn 39 over the summer, sees other well-aged veterans finding success in the league and draws hope from their exploits, telling the Post-Dispatch, "Kurt [Warner] and Kerry Collins, those are just two examples." Ironic that he should choose to cite Warner, who was thrust into duty after Green's injury while the two were with the Rams in 1999, much to the benefit of Warner, who became that season's MVP as well as the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIV.

Needless to say, Warner and Collins both gained benefit from fantastic offensive personnel around them in 2008. Warner had three top-notch wide receivers and Collins had one of the game's fiercest rushing attacks. It's possible that Green could land with the Minnesota Vikings, where he would be able to draw on the continued success of Adrian Peterson while playing "game manager" under center. Minnesota currently has Tarvaris Jackson and Gus Frerotte on the roster, and is frequently mentioned whenever any free-agent quarterback's name is brought up.

Green has played in only 16 games over the course of the past three seasons, but over a four-season arc from 2002-2005, he was one of the league's most reliable quarterbacks with the Kansas City Chiefs. During that span, Green threw for 16,334 yards, with 94 touchdowns against 52 interceptions, and was named to the Pro Bowl twice. Although he'll be four years removed from that level of performance by the start of the 2009 season, the two quarterbacks Green mentioned above were also left for dead before experiencing renaissances late in their career.

Giants in the mix for Haynesworth?
Albert Haynesworth | Titans | Interested: Redskins? Buccaneers? Giants?
Saying "the money is great, but getting the naysayers off my back is better," Albert Haynesworth stirred the drink a bit during a conversation with Sara Walsh of Washington, D.C. TV station WUSA. Perhaps the most interesting nugget to come out of the interview is the New York Giants are now apparently in the mix to acquire the defensive tackle.

No matter where Albert lands, he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after some members of the media have said signing him to a big contract would be a costly mistake, given his durability and performance in non-contract seasons. "The team I'm gonna pick, that gives me the money I get, I want to prove I'm worth every penny to teammates, to coaches, fans and the naysayers."

While Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, recently stated there was not a contract in place for Haynesworth and the Washington Redskins, several factors would point to Haynesworth signing in D.C. First, Speck didn't explicitly state he hadn't had direct conversations about contract figures with the Redskins, just that no deal was currently in place; if a deal was currently in place, it would be tampering since Haynesworth is still officially a member of the Titans. Second, while Haynesworth has been told to muzzle himself when it comes to the Nashville press -- the Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt got a "Call Chad" reply when he texted Haynesworth for information on Wednesday -- he made an appearance on a D.C. area TV station, and asked the host questions about life in Washington and what the team was like. Third, Redskins owner Dan Snyder has a history of acquiring big-name free agents, sparing no expense to assemble what some would call a fantasy football team.

As for the Giants, although it's hard to ignore a player of Haynesworth's magnitude, the team already has a solid defensive line and the bigger offseason priority is thought to be landing a replacement for Plaxico Burress.

Another voice says Daunte is the starter
    Daunte Culpepper | Lions
Dan Orlovsky, who the Detroit News has reported will not re-sign with the Detroit Lions, tells the paper he was told Daunte Culpepper will be the team's starting quarterback in 2009.

Earlier in February, recently departed Lions wide receiver Mike Furrey told Sirius NFL Radio that the team's quarterbacks were being instructed that Culpepper would indeed be the starter when 2009 opened, although this statement was subsequently rebuffed by a source for Tom Kowalski of MLive.com.

Similarly, general manager Martin Mayhew has cast off Orlovsky's recent statements in saying every gunslinger on the roster will have a fair shake at becoming the team's signal-caller when the season begins. "I told Dan when I talked to him: 'The best player will play,'" Mayhew told the Detroit News on Friday. "'If you come in here and you're the best player to help us win football games, you'll start.'"

The prevailing opinion on the Lions' quarterbacking situation is that where there's smoke, there's fire, and there's been a lot of smoke hovering around the rumor that Culpepper is already slated to start, in spite of the repeated public statements to the contrary from Mayhew and coach Jim Schwartz. While Culpepper completed just over half of his pass attempts for the Lions in 2008, throwing for four touchdowns while being picked off six times, new offensive coordinator Scott Linehan presided over the Minnesota Vikings' offense during Culpepper's ridiculous 2004 campaign. In that season, Culpepper completed nearly 70 percent of his throws, piling up 4,717 yards and 39 touchdowns as well as rushing for 406 yards and two touchdowns.

    Rex headed to Detroit?
Rex Grossman | Bears | Interested: Jets? Cowboys? Lions?
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Rex Grossman might be joining the quarterback rodeo in the Motor City.

Appearing on Sirius NFL Radio, Grossman said the Detroit Lions are "not as bad as their record... I would love to be there." Grossman also commented that he's open to signing with just about any team, including acting as the backup for the Dallas Cowboys or the New York Jets.

"Basically what I told my agent [Eugene Parker], the ceiling is I want to compete to start," Grossman later explained. "And that is really what I want. But the floor is I want to have a good job. If that's being a backup, that's being a backup. I really want to compete to start. There are a few situations out there where I feel like they don't have a solidified starter and I'd love to get on one of those teams and I'm not sure if that's the case, but whatever happens I am going to be more motivated than I've ever been in my life to get back to the Super Bowl and be a starter and finish what I started in Chicago."

After a successful college career at the University of Florida, Grossman had his best NFL season in 2006, completing 54.6 percent of his passes and finishing the campaign with 3,193 yards and 23 touchdowns as the Chicago Bears ended up competing in Super Bowl XLI. In the two seasons since then, he has appeared in only 12 games for the Bears.

Will Titans retain nickle back Fuller?
    Vincent Fuller | Titans
While the Tennessee Titans have had trouble signing Albert Haynesworth and Kerry Collins to deals that the players find suitable, they might also lose another valued member of the roster this Friday when free agency begins, reports the Nashville Tennessean.

Defensive back Vincent Fuller is slated to become a free agent tomorrow, and according to the Tennessean, he is not close to a deal that would bring him back to Tennessee. "We've had some discussions with the team. I don't think we're sure yet what's going to happen, but the next 24 hours or so will really answer that question," agent Mitch Frankel told the paper. "We're not close, but a lot can happen in 48 hours."

Fuller has appeared in all 16 games of the past three regular seasons. In 2007, he had two interceptions and returned both for touchdowns, while he finished the 2008 campaign with 47 tackles and one forced fumble. Fuller is behind Michael Griffin at safety on the Titans' depth chart, and will likely be seeking an opportunity to start with another team if he becomes a free agent.

Tomlinson's future to be disclosed at 3 P.M.?
    LaDainian Tomlinson | Chargers
San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith will meet with the media at noon pacific time on Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, and the primary topic is likely to be the future of running back LaDainian Tomlinson with the organization.

Smith has been fairly quiet to the media during the past week, as the team's scouts dissected the NFL combine performances and the Chargers assistant GM was slated to meet with Tom Condon, agent for Tomlinson. According to the Union-Tribune, Smith will likely also discuss injuries, free agency and the draft.

Tomlinson is due a base salary of $6.725 million in 2009, and has been reportedly asked to take a voluntary pay cut.

At the right price, I would line him up opposite Champ Bailey.

ESPN's John Clayton just reported on SportsCenter that Titans unrestricted free-agent defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is fielding more calls than expected. That might make it tougher for the Redskins to get something done. The Bucs have a lot more room under the cap than the Redskins.

I just talked to someone in the Redskins organization who said nothing's close to happening -- in the first 12 minutes of free agency! Last year, the Dolphins waited at least 30 minutes to sign the first player of free agency. I think teams want to wait at least an hour so the tampering that goes on (shhhhh!) won't be so obvious.

An NFL Live free agency special begins in three minutes if you're interested.
