With the 143rd pick in the draft, the Green Bay Packers select, Derek Pegues, FS/DB/PR, Mississippi State...

Centerfielder who reads the quarterback and anticipates receiver's routes well. ... Undercuts routes over the middle. ... Excellent hands on interceptions or pass breakups, and reverses the field with good running instincts. ... Willing to take on blocks when down by the line of scrimmage and can get off to make plays on the ball. ... Holds up bigger running backs and keeps his feet moving to stop forward progress. ... Catches punts easily when in position, and can make the first defender miss and get the corner. ... Tough running through traffic.

One of the few players in recent memory to be named all-SEC at two different positions. As a first-year starter at cornerback in 2006, Pegues made second-team All-SEC with four interceptions. He made the first team as a free safety as a junior and a senior, picking off seven passes and breaking up 13 others over those two seasons. Like 2008 prospect Jonathan Hefney of Tennessee (who went undrafted), Pegues still needs to prove he can excel in one area in the NFL. His return skills also intrigue scouts -- he has averaged 10 yards per punt return (with two touchdowns) and 22.3 yards on kickoffs during his career.

With the 144th pick, the Houston Texans select...

    Myron Pryor, DT, Kentucky

You can never go wrong w/ interior depth. There may be bigger needs, but I like what I've seen from Pryor w/ my own eyes.

With the 146th pick(Lex can pick at any time), the Chicago Bears select Ian Johnson, RB, Boise State.

    Strengths

    * Excellent acceleration and change-of-speed ability; good vision
    * Soft hands out of the backfield
    * 4.46 in the 40-yard dash: second-fastest back at the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine
    * Decent weapon as special teams kick returner
    * Huge heart; no doubt on effort

Garrett Wolf and Kevin Jones are not serious answers to pair with Matt Forte. This is becoming a 4 back league and Ian Johnson will be a guy who can step in for Forte occasionally.

With the 147th pick in the 2009 NFL Mock Draft the Tampa Bay Bucs select:

    Stephen Hodge

    School: TCU
    Position: S
    Height: 6'0
    Weight: 234

    Analysis

Adequate height with stocky, strong safety build and long arms. ... Big hitter who will lay the wood when the ballcarrier is lined up in his sights. ... Finds his way through traffic inside to attack the ball. ... Quick in his drop and can handle zone coverage outside at the second level. ... Hustles downfield and reads screens quickly. ... Could be a special teams force at the next level, like he was early in his college career, due to his secure tackling and aggressive nature.

    Jets pick:

    Kevin Ogletree

    School: Virginia
    Position: WR
    Height: 6'1
    Weight: 196

    Analysis

Lanky frame with room for additional muscle mass. Has some burst off the snap and uses his size and hands well to get off the snap cleanly. Can stick his foot in the ground and break laterally to create separation. Strong, secure hands. Good body control to adjust to the poorly thrown pass. Uses his size well to maintain his advantage over smaller cornerbacks. Has the strength to run through arm tackles in space. Times his leaps well and can pluck the ball out of the air. Can track the ball over either shoulder.

    Cowboys Pick:

    Jarrett Dillard

    School: Rice
    Position: WR
    Height: 5'10
    Weight: 191

    Analysis

Productive receiver with long arms and adequate size. Very reliable hands, snatching the ball away from his body. Can free himself off press coverage using his hands and quick movements on the line. Excellent route-runner as he stays low in his cuts, sells the jerk route well and does not round off out-cuts. Good vision and a naturally elusive runner with the ball in his hands. Lulls defenders to sleep off the line, then takes off down the seam. Adjusts to throws to his outside shoulder.

    Coye Francis

    School: San Jose St.
    Position: CB
    Height: 6'0

    Analysis

Good frame to add additional mass. ... Good straight-line speed. ... Loose hips to turn and run with receivers. ... Good agility. ... Can plant and drive out of his cuts. ... Good awareness in coverage. ... Rarely out of position. ... Has a closing burst to the ball. ... Long arms and active hands to slap away the pass. ... At least adequate hands for the interception. ... Good vertical jump and times his leaps well. ... Can high-point the ball and catch passes outside of his frame. ... Can track the ball over his shoulder. ... Active in run support. ... Fights around and through blocks and willing to stick his head into the pile. ... Willing to lower his shoulder into the ballcarrier. ... Can break down in space and make the open-field tackle. ... Generally reliable wrap-up technique. ... Good speed and vision as a kick returner. ... Averaged 22.4 yards per return at Oregon State. ... Strong weeks of practice at East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl. ...
