With the 3rd pick in the 2009 BF Mock Draft the Kansas City Chiefs select...Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia.





The Chiefs really wanted to select Curry to be a difference maker in their ailing defense, but no other defensive players warrant a top 5 pick in this draft. Stafford is just too good of a prospect to pass up here. Thigpen had a nice season, but the Chiefs really don't want to have to run the spread in order to incorporate him. Stafford ran a pro system in college and will be able to step in as a rookie and start developing along with the rest of their young players.

With the 4th overall pick the Seattle Seahawks select:

We made sure that our medical staff was up to date on all the information and the surgury on the foot of Michael. We feel comfortable that this injury will not affect him at all and he will be able to become a staple in our offense. Some might question his speed but with a west coast offense, a very acurate QB in Matt (Hasselbeck), we feel that Michael can find the open zones, and is sure to crab any ball that comes his way opening up the rest of the offense in the process.

Not at the top of Buffalo's list of needs, but passing on Monroe here woud be unforgivable. The Bills were eyeing Everette Brown to help the pass rush, but he was snatched right before the pick. Orakpo has question marks and Maybin would have to switch to OLB in a 4-3. The front office is giddy at the thought of lining Monroe up in front of Trent Edwards and "the lone gunman."

With the 12th pick in the 2009 draft, the Denver Broncos select:

2/24/09: Pay no attention to that 40; Rey Maualuga tweaked a hamstring during the run and had to sit out the rest of the 2009 NFL Combine.

1/10/09: A member of the AP All-America First Team, Rey Maualuga finished the season with 79 tackles, 2.5 TFL and four passes broken up.

12/7/08: The top pure 3-4 inside linebacker in this class, Rey Maualuga qualified for the All-America First Team. Through 10 games, he has 68 tackles, 2.5 TFL and two picks (one returned for a touchdown).

5/11/08: Rey Maualuga put up solid numbers in 2007 despite going through some nagging injuries. Maualuga had 75 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and a fumble recovery.

2007: Slated to be the next great linebacker at USC, Rey Maualuga has the size and speed of a top-15 prospect. Had 78 tackles, two sacks and one pick in 2006, qualifying for the All-Pac-10 First Team.



Wanted Raji here but knew he wouldn't last. The Broncos need a top run stuffing MLB and select the #1 MLB prospect in the draft.

With the 8th Pick the Jacksonville Jaguars select

8. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri



The Jags could use an OT here but with Smith, Oher and unfortunately, Eugene Monroe gone as well, The Jags select a versatile WR who can also perform special teams duties ala Eddie Royal.

Another option if I had been in order was Rey Maualuga. Del Rio is extremely high on this kid, having been a linebacker at USC himself. The Jags may need to look to replace Barnes at tackle and Peterson at MLB.

With the 13th selection in the 2009 draft the Washington Redskins select:

Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Taylor and Carter are getting way too old and Orakpo is a great value at 13. I was gonna go OT here, but we went all OT crazy in the first 1 picks or so.

With the 14th pick the New Orleans Saints select...Brian Cushing, OLB, USC.



I think it is highly likely that the Saints try to trade down here to acquire more picks since they don't have another pick until the 4th, but if they stand pat I think that Cushing is their guy. They may opt to go with a CB in Jenkins or Vontae Davis here since they need serious help in their secondary, but I think Cushing is the better overall prospect. The Saints will need to address their secondary issues either later in the draft or in FA.
