My suggestion is to start out slow. Look at the game in the IS and go from there. In the US you have 3 major leagues. The top one is MLS, then you have the North American Soccer League (NASL) and the 3rd tier is USL Pro. You might even find something on Wiki that will break it down for you. Once you understand the US system, it should be easier to understand the systems in other countries.

    While I typed this, I found a good link...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_..._league_system

It's enlightening reading the last few comments as it's the opposite over here. Try and explain NFL and the draft, scheduling, play offs etc and you are met with a blank expression. And as for the college game and the polls they just make people's head explode.

The simple easy way to remember it is most countries have several divisions of x amount of teams who play each other twice. The winner is the one with the most points (3 for a win 1 for a draw). The bottom x number of clubs are relegated to the division below them and replaced by the top x teams of that lower division.

Each country also has a knock out tournament (sometimes 2) where teams are drawn at random and the winners go through to the next round.

Then there is the continental competition where the highest x number of teams from the previous year contest. Like the NFL playoffs but the following year spread out throughout the year.

Simple. At least simpler then explaining to someone of the NFL scheduling works!

I don't want to brag, MO, but.... I am an official member of the Stoke City Football Club. I have a card that proves it.

And the bar at Britannia Stadium is probably the best bar in the Premier League.

Have Man U played in Denver yet?

If they have, I suggest having the place fumigated afterwards to remove the stench of manure

    I'm making an executive decision.

Based on lack of support on this website, plus on-field performance and global marketing opportunities, I am switching allegiances to Manchester City and New York City FC.

Also, the colors are pretty fit.

    Bash away, folks. Bash away.

Good for you. I understand your predicament.

I used to follow boise state - but they are never on in the UK, so I am switching to one of the bigger teams this year.

Still not decided who - but it won't be bama, but no one else is ruled out.

I was thinking Vols or LSU - maybe Penn state as I am seeing them in Dublin.

I don't know - it might even come down to the jerseys I like best.
