    Default Everybody and their mother...

..has us taking Rey Maualuga at #12.

    12. Denver Broncos - Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
RB Knowshown Moreno would be perfect here, but the Broncos have far more need for its new 3-4 defense. The Broncos' defense was horrible this past season and now they are looking to be moving to a 3-4. With B.J. Raji and both hybrid DE/OLBs off the board this pick is too easy. Maualuga is the perfect ILB to build their new defense around. My most NFL ready defensive player in the draft, probably also my early favorite for defensive rookie of the year.

Actually, I think a lot of folks would be happy w/ this mock overall.

    Rd1- Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
    Rd2- Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama
    Rd3- Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
RD4- Andre Brown, RB, NC State

Denver’s defense is pathetic, to say the least. They are in a position in the draft to select the best available defensive player, in this case it is Rey Maualuga, the inside linebacker from USC. Defense was the reason Mike Shanahan got fired, and it would shock me if the new administration did not go defense with their first round pick. Maualuga will instantly become one of the physical inside linebacker for the new 3-4 defense that Denver is implementing.

12 Denver Broncos: Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
Josh McDaniels was just hired as the head coach, and he brought on Mike Nolan as his defensive coordinator. Nolan will implement his 3-4 defense, meaning the Broncos will be busy scouring for the right personnel to fit that scheme in the next two drafts.

They can start by selecting Rey Maualuga, the top pure 3-4 inside linebacker on the board. Maybe he can help the team rank outside the bottom five in defense for the first time in ages.

12 Denver - Rey Maualuga, LB, USC
The defense needs a lot of help, plain and simple. Maualuga may not be the best overall defender at this point, and may not address their need of an interior lineman, he is the biggest impact player available. Maualuga is a force against the run, but his tenacity and aggression is contagious. It will help the entire defense right away.

I like it! Picking him at #12 may be a bit of a reach but, for the needs we have, I don't think so. If we run a 3-4 or a 4-3 it really won't matter. He'd shore up the inside and we've been needing that.

Ok everyone is telling me that the Broncos are going defense with their first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. In this 2009 NFL Mock Draft I believe that they will go defense but I wouldn’t be surprised if they went after one of the top RB’s in the 2009 NFL Mock Draft.

    12. Denver Broncos - Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
There is some talk that the Broncos will move D.J. Williams to MLB to replace Nate Webster, who is entering free agency. Alternately, the Broncos could bring in a major talent like Laurinaitis to shore up the middle of the defense for years to come.

A playmaker who can cover sideline-to-sideline, Maualuga would be a great addition to any NFL team. The concept of Williams and Maualuga in the same defensive corps should be an exciting idea for Broncos fans.

Rey would be OK, but I'd prefer a trade down in that scenario.

There are more w/ Maualuga, but you get the hint. I've also seen 2 w/ us taking Raji, 1 w/ Cushing and 1 w/ Wells.

He's appeared to be the consesus for us for awhile now in alot of mocks. After reading them all, i would'nt be suprised to hear his named called come Draft day at this point. And I would be fine with that personally.

There are a few I'd prefer more, but I wouldn't be upset if we got him.

I think that they will continue to have us taking maualuga, but it's ony because they all have Raji going higher. If Raji drops to 12, Denver probably takes him regardless of who else is there other than Curry.
