If the Broncos take a RB in the 1st round, I may throw a shoe through my TV.

I wouldn't mind a RB. Especially if we fill out most of the front 7 after that.

    or before that, through FA.

Knowshon Moreno would bring the dominant run game back to Denver.

It depends on how well we adress the D in FA, top. For all we know, the coaches may think we have 7 or 8 legit starters already on the roster for the new system on D. Not likely, but one can dream.

I do believe right now that the Broncos have that many legitimate starters. I
don't believe they are as depleted as we think here on the Broncos message
    boards.

People are down on Thomas, for instance. Why? He just completed his second
year on the field, after what amounted to more than two years off it. And he
did a decent job last year during his learning curve. Ekuban is good (not great,
but good). While Robertson is not the superstar were were hoping for, he was
    competent.

The LBs have some good personnel on it as it is, if they are staying with a
4-3, and Moss and Dumervil can move back to OLB, with all their talent, if
they go to the 3-4 . . . as Collier said in a recent interview, it depends on
how they move around in space, but those guys are athletes.

CB is a no-brainer with Champ and Bly.

Safety may be a player short at starter, maybe not . . . I would like to see
how Woodyard would perform back there with Barrett. At the least, they
would have more size and speed than just about anyone else in the league.
Depth, however, would still be a problem there.

I just don't see that many holes, yet conversion to 3-4 would create a huge
one at NT. The Broncos need not one, but two, there for depth. And their
starter has to be very good.

So, as it stands, I would perhaps shoot for Raji, and if there is no hope for
him, trade down to acquire a couple of them.

But then, I don't claim to be a draft guru . . . <---- *I'm pretty good at that, though*

Thomas fit in a 3-4 is unknown, Ekuban is old balls, Robertson didn't like playing in a 3-4, who knows if Moss and Dumervil can make a 3-4 transition (both of them can't play rushbacker) and Bly isn't the kind of corner you want playing tough press man in Nolan's scheme. With all the players you mentioned (outside of Champ) -- there is more ambiguity as to their role rather than enough evidence to suggest they would do well in regards to it.

I think he'd be a good choice. You could have a linebacking corps of Williams, Maualuga, Larsen, and (??? - Dumerville maybe?) I think Larsen would make a very good ILB in a 3-4 where speed isn't as important.

Oddly enough, the biggest reason I'd be interested in Maualuga is because I just dont think DJ can play well in a 4-3. Although he's played multiple LB spots, I think he's proven he's completely one dimensional as far as where he excels.

That's about as trait forward an assessment as I have seen.

As to Maualuga, I've heard criticism coming from observers of the seniorbowl practices, but if He was really doggin it I'd expect him to start dropping in the mocks like that Quentin Moses (sp) kid two years ago.

    12. Denver Broncos - Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
RB Knowshown Moreno would be perfect here, but the Broncos have far more need for its new 3-4 defense. The Broncos' defense was horrible this past season and now they are looking to be moving to a 3-4. With B.J. Raji and both hybrid DE/OLBs off the board this pick is too easy. Maualuga is the perfect ILB to build their new defense around. My most NFL ready defensive player in the draft, probably also my early favorite for defensive rookie of the year.

Actually, I think a lot of folks would be happy w/ this mock overall.

    Rd1- Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
    Rd2- Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama
    Rd3- Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
RD4- Andre Brown, RB, NC State
No I think it's totally the weakest mock draft I have ever seen. (Just kidding)

Seriously though, it looks good to me.

Rey Rey and DJ in the middle is pretty dang solid. good combination of size, speed, and athleticism.
