I don't know TX, One can always look at next years class but there is no way of knowing where you will be picking or who will be there.. For instance, If you put everything on getting one of the top 3 NT next year, what happens if they're all gone when you pick? I don't like the idea of passing on a guy you have rated high for the chance of getting someone a little better next year... There will always be a what if, for me, it is pretty simple, either the guy you want is there or he isn't. If there isn't a guy at the position you wanted to draft who can do what you need him to do, you simply don't take him.. If he is, you better get him while you can and not bank your future success on a maybe..
So many are always saying, next years class will be lights out at said position.. Last year it was LB and Safety, so many people were saying, lets not get an LB or S, instead we can get either JL or Maualuga and the class of S next year will be full of talent.. What happened with that? Now we have a real shot at Maualuga and some are saying hes overrated, From the looks of things, there is very little question we could get JL at 12, yet almost no one wants him that high.
I guess my point is, you can't count your chickens before they hatch..

exactly. . . i don't mind looking ahead and seeing if the next class projects to be light at a position, but if you pass on a talent at a position of need because you like that position's depth in the next class you can wind up with egg on your face pretty easily-- waaaay too much can happen in a year and change. . . .
maybe you have seven or eight guys at the position projected with first and second round grades, but that doesn't guarantee anything. . . what happens when two of them regress during the next season, one totally blows out his knee, and one of them gets kicked off his team because he got caught in a hotel room with two hookers and half a kilo of coke? what happens if the badass junior prospect you were counting on decides to come back for his senior year to try to win a national championship? suddenly that great depth you were counting on is gone, and now you're desperate for help at the position with only a few top options available in the draft. . .
i've seen a few people here say we shouldn't take raji if we have the chance, because they want terrence cody next year. . . to me, that's just ridiculous-- what happens if we win eight or ten games, and cody has a dominant season and elevates himself to a top five pick? what if he eats himself right out of football?
- John Elway“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
