Words convey thoughts and ideas. However, people try to use them to convey emotions; and words cannot do that. I repeat, words cannot communicate emotions. I just doesn’t work, but that doesn’t stop us when words are all we have, like on this board. To try and force emotions into words we use stronger words; idiot, fool, retard. We write them with emotions, but the ideas behind them are what is read not your emotions.

As MB put, “The mantra of the board seems to be ‘attack the post, not the poster.’” This means stay with ideas not emotions. Fat chance, huh!

Don’t want to lecture, just putting out some thoughts.

(I just don't buy into the idea that if someone insults me, I ought to call someone else to punish them... Call it a macho thing, or a maturity issue, or code of silence, or whatever... But it just doesn't appeal to me.)

I think moderators are a good idea for extreme circumstances where someone is completely having their message board experience ruined over an extended period of time, or in cases where specific threats are made, or in cases of SPAM (which is the only thing I report)...

But by and large the feature is used as a means of tattling on someone over rather mundane or trivial issues, and I find that to be juvenile and lame. Especially 3rd party reporting on behalf of someone else... People ought to just mind their own business.

I've reported a few posts, but those were the spam bot variety, "buy Viagra" or some shit like that, I don't think I've sen any of that in a while. Tned must have tightened the security.

I think we should be a diverse and loving place where we accept those different than us and live in a harmonic bliss and pet butterflies and lick frozen fence posts.

I think they throw in the chickens ass hole and taint to the pot pies. Other than that, it was great.

I think we have become is intolerant and polarized.

A rough Broncos season, combined with a very LONG and polarizing Presidential election has left this message board very polarized and has left MANY people extremely intolerant of anyone that has a viewpoint that is not 100% in line with their own.

I think somewhere along the line, we may have forgotten that the primary reason people come to a football message board (or other, non-technical message boards for that matter) is to share their opinion on subjects or read other people's opinions on subject.

    Where does it stop?

Do we start to create polls to determine WHAT positions on a subject are 'proper', and anyone that diverges from that should be called an idiot or have their post deleted? So, do we start by creating a poll and decide whether or not Marshall is an 'elite' WR. If the poll is more than 50% "yes", then anyone that criticizes Marshall is open for being called an idiot for having a 'different' opinion?

    Again, where does it stop?

Do some of you really want a message board where everyone posts the EXACT same opinions, so that what we get is one post touting Cutler, or Obama, or some other topic, and then 100 posts that follow with things like, "you are 100% correct", "you nailed that", "I couldn't agree more". Sounds pretty damn boring to me.

I will be posting this in the other thread as well in Town Hall, to get reaction on what people think and want.

Do we want a Stepford posters version of BroncosForums, or do we want to continue to have diverse ideas and opinions posted?

IMO the only way to this problem is to compartmentalize the board more by post count, and opt in access.

Members with more than a couple thousand posts shouldnt be getting offended as easily as someone with a few hundred.

And Members shouldnt be as hard on a poster with less than a couple thousand posts..... Unless their name is West. He deserves it.

Its not a smut board, but it is a board that is made up of adults..... We should be able to say what we want in the right areas, and we should be able to deal with people disagreeing with what we say.

Until they invent a way to stab someone on the internet, I think we can handle some temper's flairing up, and some feelings hurt....

What's funny about this is that it seems that a lot of the problems we have (reported posts etc) come from members with a lot of posts/high post count.

It seems that the newer posters a lot of times do a better job of trying to get along than some of the older one's do. Just my humble opinion.
