Though He slay me, I will trust in Him . . . (Job 13:15)
I've never been one to just flat out unleash my fury on people, but I think if someone is genuinely an idiot, they reserve the right to be called out on it. I wouldn't say anything to someone on the net that I wouldn't say to their face, but calling someone an idiot is an opinion, and like all matters on this board within the CoC that are opinionated, calling someone an idiot, moron, dolt, dumbass, etc, shouldn't be out of line so long as it doesn't escalate in to a big lambasting.

They are, and we can't read them. However, if a member reports an attack via PM and forwards us the PM then we apply the CoC to it. The same applies to a negative comment via MHS, which Tned (but not the Mods) CAN see. In fact, we consider those much more serious infractions than an attack in the open forum. The reason is simple; in order for a PM to be reported the recipient must obviously have done the reporting, and this removes their protection of anonymity. Most open forum attacks are reported by third parties, though I've seen cases where an offender simply assumes thier target was the one who reported. That cannot be true of a PM or MHS.

Reporting posts is lame. That's my opinion.
Do you think its more lame than seeing somebody get bullied and insulted and simply ignoring it? I can't understand that thinking Buff, but then I have never had any respect for "Codes of Silence" and such.
FTR, I've never myself once seen you make a post that was out of line

If someone is really getting butt hurt over being "bullied" by a stranger on the internet, they are an idiot.

I just think that people ought to be able to handle their own problems in an online message board format. If you are being bullied or assaulted, you ought to handle it yourself, or take a look in the mirror and figure out why you're being treated that way. (I just don't buy into the idea that if someone insults me, I ought to call someone else to punish them... Call it a macho thing, or a maturity issue, or code of silence, or whatever... But it just doesn't appeal to me.)
I think moderators are a good idea for extreme circumstances where someone is completely having their message board experience ruined over an extended period of time, or in cases where specific threats are made, or in cases of SPAM (which is the only thing I report)...
But by and large the feature is used as a means of tattling on someone over rather mundane or trivial issues, and I find that to be juvenile and lame. Especially 3rd party reporting on behalf of someone else... People ought to just mind their own business.
Nice first post, DB. Which one are you?
