You mean Funeral Doom Metal? lol

Essentially, its depressing lyrics about doom and death with a sound influenced by bands like Black Sabbath etc. If you've ever heard of MASTODON they have a similiar feeling but darker.

Yea, Doom metal like that is pretty atomspheric. The vocals just add to the dismay and overall appeal of the music. Certainly an acquired taste for certain fans thats for sure.

I wouldn't dislike so much of that music if there wasn't any growling. It's so annoying.

My wife is in the music business so I get to hear a bunch of stuff. I heard that Cannibal Corpse is pretty popular. I heard snippets of Wino and Woe of Tyrants. The Metal Blade album covers are insane. I just can't get the music.

Whitechapel... wow. First death growls I heard. Combined with the melodies, I was in serious WTF mode.

It's not my cup of tea. The death growls are disturbing and just as people do with hip hop, I don't get it. But I do love the tones itself, it would sound cool with singing vocals, to me at least.

Whitechapel.....that whole genre their part of...they claim to be all death metal. But bands like them, Job For a Cowboy, Suicide Silence, Winds of Plague....they all suck. Made me lose complete interest in the metal genre. That's why I only listen to a select few. I may be the only one who feels this way, but all these "death-core" bands are a complete joke. It gets so boring listening them play these "breakdowns" in each and every song. I totally hate that genre.

Of course there is one band who is involved with that scene, but I wouldn't consider them playing that genre. They are more technical death metal. They're called The Faceless. They're amazing musicians and it sucks that they have to play with those damn bands I mentioned every time they go out on tour.

The Faceless kick ass. Planetary Duality was awesome.
