Default Who would we take if we had the #1 overall pick?

I was thinking about this today. If we had the exact same needs that we do now, who would we take at #1? Don't assume that because we are drafting #1 that we must be a terrible team. Assume that we are in the exact same position we are now, just that we have the #1 pick.

Most mocks and rankings I see have a lot of tackles in the top 10. Two QBs, one or two WRs. All positions we dont need.

At #1 I think we go with Aaron Curry. Raji would still be an option there as well...maybe even Brown. Crabtree is the highest rated player in the draft, but I wouldnt think we would take him.

Who would you take #1 overall and why? Humor me.

Curry would be my pick. He is a versatile LB with a huge ceiling. Much like DJ, but better. He could play inside or outside in a 3-4 IMO which would be helpful to us because we dont really know how Moss or Doom are going to fit in at OLB. So we could stick him at ILB with DJ and if we needed help at OLB move him out there and put Larsen in the middle.

Cant really argue with that pick as i really like Curry. But i would also consider taking Crabtree to compliment Marshall and then let Royal be the special teamer and 3rd Wideout.

Probably Curry, but Crabtree would only make our offense that much better. I guess it would depend on what happened via FA

Best answer in the thread, IMO.

if you guys trade down you will be missing out on alot IMO...I don't even think you guys will be that bad once a defensive minded guy (Mike Nolan) comes in there with a plan...you guys will be fine.

There really isn't anyone in the first few selections for whom the Broncos have
a specific need. They don't need a QB, WR, or O-line (well, maybe a C/OG if
it doesn't mean sacrificing defense), or even a RB very badly, especially when
compared to defense. That just about covers the first 10 selections or so.

What the Broncos need can be filled largely from that point on. Now, the key
is, trading down means more selections. That is really what the Broncos need
on defense: numbers. They need a starter at DT and safety, and maybe MLB,
although they could manage with what they have because, outside the
departing Webster, I believe the LB corps is decent.

What they need probably the worst is depth. They have a few starters, but
they don't have much behind them in several positions. They don't need an
    overall #1 for that.

the Eagles have traded down two years in a row...it's worked out for the most part (waiting on Kevin Kolb, to I dunno, get good..) but the fans are ready to murder Reid.

They think it's pompous of Reid to not have an rings and think we're too good select a player in the first round..they think it's him just being cheap.

I guess what Im really asking is...what one player in this draft class would be the best value for us if we could pick any player. When we do mocks, we consider the first 11 players that might be gone...but I want to know who we would pick if we did not have to consider what players will still be available.

I know its irrelevant to anything, but it is something I am interested in...considering I don't forsee us having the #1 pick anytime in at least the next decade.

    If pushed into a corner...

    1A. Curry
    1B. Crabtree

    Tough decision

I agree with the Curry pick. He has the looks of being a perennial pro bowler regardless of which LB position he plays in and in either the 3-4 or 4-3.

    Crabtree

IMO, The difference between him and the rest of the WRs is exponentially bigger than the difference betwen Curry and Cushig, etc. Add that to tha fact that our O would be INCREDIBLE and we'd have an insurance policy in case BMarsh has any issues, and I presonally think it's a no brainer.

Put the fire starter in me says Pettigrew.

If we had the number one overall pick I think we would still draft Raji.
