    Default Wish List Mock...Version 3-4 D

Thought I'd toy with a new mock asuming we do go 3-4. Basically just for shts and giggles, but here goes...

First off, I think Chris Canty of Dallas is a must as a Free Agent DE. He's familiar w/ the system. Our other DE options are basically our current DTs, one of whcih we already know hates playing in the 3-4. IMHO, we will need to get our DEs elsewhere, be it the draft or Free Agency. Other than maybe a veteran WR, Canty would be my only FA pickup, but he'd be my #1 priority.

Secondly, I think Elvis could move to OLB in a 3-4 w/ reasonable success. Not so sure about Moss though. DJ obviously goes to the middle alongside Larsen and we have a gaping hole on the other side. Of our remaining LBs, I don't care what we do w/ em.

Barrett and Woodyard are our Safeties. Let's at least try it til it works. The new scheme should be built from the inside out. Besides, maybe these 2 are the answer.

    Now to the draft:

I am still a proponent of the trading back scenario, especially sice we will need a whole new retructuring of the front 7. As previously stated, I don't care if we get an additional late #1 or early #2, but we need to move to add a pick.

    ROUND 1

    Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
    6'5" 290

PERFECT fit for a 3-4 defense and should be around after pick #20. He and Canty solidifying the ends is a great start to the 3-4 switch.

    PICK #2

    LeSean McCoy, RB, Pitt

Yep...still want him. He is a difference maker that our backfield needs. Other options here are obviously Shonn Greene and James Davis.

    ROUND 2

    Ron Brace, DT, Boston College
    6'3" 324

We need a beast in the middle to make this thing work. He is that beast. Every bit as big as Raji, but with none of the character questions. Now we have our starting DLine.

    ROUND 3

    Connor Barwin, OLB, Cincinnati
    6'4" 255

Admittedly, this may be a dream for him to be available in round 3, but there are a LOT of talented players coming out. It's possible he lasts this long and if he does, he is a great prospect as a 3-4 OLB. May not have the pass rushing skillset of some, but he can still get to the QB...and he's not a 1 trick pony.

    ROUND 4

    Worrell Williams, ILB, California
    6'0" 250

I like Larsen, but insurance is still needed on the inside. Who better than DJ's 250 pound brother to be that policy. I'm partial to Jasper rinkley, but he does have an injury history and his availability in round 4 is just not likely. Worrell does not have DJ' skillset, but he is bulky enouh to handle the middle in the NFL.

    ROUND 5a

    Clinton McDonald, DE, Memphis
    6'3" 285

Another beast for depth at the DE spot. Canty, Jackson, McDonald and whoever else we keep, would be a solid start to FINALLY fortify the DE position.

    ROUND 5b

    Quan Cosby, WR, Texas
    5'11" 205

Another "young" WR to fill out the current corps, Cosby has proven he can play big vs big time talent on the big stage. That's a lot of bigs.

    ROUND 6

    A.Q. Shipley, C, Penn State
    6'1" 297

Since Nalen has retired and our current Center is on the wrong side of 35, this position is a definite need. I know we have the kid from BGU, but he would still need a backup or used as depth at OG. AQ has a nasty streak that this OLine could use. He held down the middle of the PSU line for 4 years and rarely had a bad game. Another late round OLine gem for the Broncos.

    ROUND 7

    Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Stillman
    6'4" 328

NT depth and a project w/ some potential.

Jackson would be a reach in the first IMO. 3-4 DEs aren't really a need because we have Thomas, Crowder, Ekuban, and Robertson(the rotational player?). We could fill in with depth in the 5th or later.

Nice draft Assassin. I like the picks, other than McCoy in the 2nd. Love the Brace pick. He'd be a nice starter at NT in a 3-4.

Robertson begged to leave NYJ cuz he hates the 3-4. Ekuban is as good as gone. I like Thomas and Crowder, but in a 3-4 I see them as rotational/backups. Jackon is projected to go between 20 and 32 in most assessments 've seen. I don't want him at 12...I wann trade back for Jackson AND Mcoy.

Of course I am an advocate for Barwin, but I strongly believe he will be gone by the end of round 2. I would be willing to put money on it.

Not a huge fan of your first or second round picks, but the rest of it looks good. I don't see why we'd need to draft a running back when we've got Torain and Hillis and both are capable of having huge years in a full time, non committee backfield.

yea, maybe if torain can stay on the field for more than three minutes next year, which would be a first. . . i love hillis, but i would cry if we got shady mccoy-- he would be unbelieveable in orange and blue. . .

smiley, i like it-- although i actually think you might have to flip-flop mccoy and jackson, and i do think brinkley might be available in the 4th. . .

This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”
