Default Looking at a Volkswagen Golf

Can someone clue me in on these cars? Are Volkswagen's dependable?

What year? If it's a brand new one, you don't have to worry about reliability because you'll have a warranty.

My wife had an '03 Jetta for a while. We bought it used from the VW dealer here with like 12k miles on it in March '05. It had TONS of problems. We ended up selling it (after we had about a half dozen problems fixed) for something more reliable. I'm not a big fan of VW anymore. The Toureg is nice...but that's about it for me.

I'd stay away from a 10 year old VW unless it was a turbo diesel.

If I had been driving a car that wasn't a Jetta back in May when I got in an accident... I would probably be dead right now... so basically they are very safe... and usually they are reliable, at least in my experience.

That's what most of our problems were; electrical. At one point, we couldn't start the car because our day time running lights would stay on even when the car was off. This was a recurring problem that VW didn't seem to know how to fix.

Every make of vehicles has its lemons...I had a 93 T-bird that was
nothing but problems...I bought it when it was a year old with about
23,000 miles on it...biggest piece of junk I ever bought.

I was lucky that when I traded it in,they paid it off for me.

I traded it for a 96 Saturn SL2 and that was one of the best cars

I ever owned.Of course they don't make the SL2 anymore.

the one I had was a good one and hubby has a newer one to commute back and forth to work with and it has been a good car.

but everyone has their likes and dislikes.

I would never own another Ford...we buy GM now and have for the

past several years with the exception of my sons Dodge and the old

    Jeep we have.

I'm not a big fan of VW's. As far as new cars go, there are many other options in the same price range that offer more options, and more reliability, but that's my opinion. I recently went car shopping and found that cars that offered the same things that VW's did were two to five thousand dollars cheaper, and were cheaper to fix. My cousin owns a passat and has had some serious problems with the car. A friend owns a Jetta and also has problems. Fixing it is also mroe expensive because it is a european car and the parts arn't as widely manufactured as other cars (Honda and Toyota have the most parts manufactured on the market and are also some of the least expensive to fix part wise).

Personally I prefer Hondas. They have always treated me really well and I never have had any maintnence problems. If your going with trucks, domestic car producers do it best, but as far as smaller economy cars I like Japanese cars (Honda nd Toyota), and luxer ycars are a while different ball park .

Everyone has their preferences though. I would suggest loooking at epinions.com and review some of the reviews posted by people on specific models and years of cars. That will give you a better idea of a wider range of opinions.

I like Acuras (I should Honda and Acura are owned by the same company) and also like the integra depending on the year. Good luck.

    Is this a used car?

Integras are good cars...as long as they're not all riced out.
