    what is the origin of the word devildog? I belive I heard it to be from an enemy of the U.S. during wartime. I want to say the Japanese on Jima or one of the islands.

    In WWI, in the battle of Belleau Woods, the Germans were quoted as saying that the US Marines fought like hounds from hell...Tuefel Hunden in German...it was loosely translated into Devil Dog and the nickname stuck
