Default Video: Torrealba Slaps Venezuelan Ump

Former Rockies Catcher Yorvit Torrealba argues with an umpire in Venezuelan League winter ball and gives him what I would best describe as a "bitch slap". He's suspended for the rest of this season and all of next season in Venezuela but it does not impact his career in the States.

    Ok, so... why?

Did the ump eject him from the game for cursing or something? I saw him get strike three swinging, yell, and the ump looked like he ejected him for it. Weird.

Interesting that this supposedly happened two weeks ago but I guess news travels slowly from Chavezville. The Texas Rangers, Torrealba's current U.S. team, now says it is mulling disciplinary action. I assume the MLB umpires union is probably also looking for some payback here.

No matter where it went down Torrealba is a complete douchebag for doing that.

Anyone can snap in the heat of the moment. If it only happens once, I wouldn't hold it against him. If it's a pattern, then he needs to get it under control.

I remember when Roberto Alomar spat on an umpire during a playoff game and he still was voted into the Hall of Fame. Of course, he didn't spit on a reporter so maybe the baseball reporters were more forgiving.
