Default FSU's Rolle to Oxford in 09, Draft in 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State safety Myron Rolle will study at Oxford instead of entering this year's NFL draft.

Rolle won a Rhodes scholarship in November and plans to seek a one-year master's degree in medical anthropology.

"The opportunity to attend Oxford next year as a Rhodes Scholar was one that you couldn't pass up," Rolle told ESPN's Chris McKendry.

Rolle, projected to be an early round pick, said he plans to enter the 2010 NFL draft.

Rolle took into consideration that the delay could force his draft status to drop.

"That definitely came into the decision as well. But I feel that my skills and my talent will surface once I go to the combine next year and continue to work out to stay in shape and continue on with the same path as I was at Florida State," Rolle told McKendry.

Rolle, from Galloway, N.J., got his undergraduate degree in pre-med after two and a half years and has been taking graduate courses at Florida State this year.

After his NFL career, Rolle has said he plans to attend medical school and then open a clinic for the needy in the Bahamas.

"I want to be a neurosurgeon," Rolle told ESPN's Joe Schad in November. "And I want to help impoverished nations build up their vaccination programs. I think in many poor countries, vaccination programs and mental health programs are wrongly pushed aside."

Good decision. I've heard from FSU fans that he underachieved on the football field there so it's probably a safer bet for him to go further his education instead of risking not making it in the NFL.

He wasn't really an underacheiver, but he was never the highlight reel prospect people made him out to be. He's a first-round talent maybe, but not Top 12 / Top 15 like people spoke of him as.

When I say underachiever, I mean relative to the fact that he was the #1 HS recruit in the nation coming out and he never lived up to that billing at FSU. Some of the FSU fans I have talked to aren't that upset about seeing him go.

Yeah, I'm not really upset. He's a good prospect, but not an awesome one.

It's not just going there, it's going there as a Rhodes Scholar, which is huge.
