Default Nut's economical and nutritional lunchtime thread

this thread is created for the purpose of exchanging ideas and experiences on saving time, money, and even avoiding disappointment in an activity that most of us deal with on a daily basis. that's right,.. eating. I have recently started bringing my food into work. There are not alot of restaurants in walking distance to my job site and I don't like leaving the builiding during the day. I'd rather eat my lunch while trolling broncos forums. I stop by a supermarket every morning and buy a packaged hoagie and soup. I also get fruit for the mornig. This morning, I also added a couple servings of yogurt. The soup I get is pretty tasty and can be prepared in one minute and one half. the brand is hormel. I am concerned that it might not be the best nutritional value. I've heard that Maria Calendar sucks in that department. I'd also like to start preparing crock pot meals and freezing them away for lunches at work. Anyway, there's alot to the preparation of foods when your concerns are health, expense, enjoyment, and convenience. Oh, alot of times I'll stop at a grocer and go to the deli and get a sald there. What do you folks do? also mods, feel free to merge this thread with another lunch thread I started a few days ago.

Its a guilty pleasure of mine to watch Rex be mean to Nut. I hate Rex, and love Nut. So its conflicting.

It's not even new insults. Rex is off his game.

I'm not sure you can get much more economical and nutritional than a sandwich. Salad is good, too.

You could cut out the bread, and just eat the meat. JMO

Here's the dilemma. If you make your work lunch in a microwave, especially soup, then you are probably getting little-to-no nutritional value out of it. Microwaves kill nutrients.

I eat out for pretty much every single meal, so I have no tips on being economical. Unless you want to come to $5 Fajita Thursdays at Brandon's with us.

I eat a salad for lunch everyday with the occasional italian sub thrown in. Both are 2.99 at the exchange.

I am usually at one of the bars around lunchtime so it's 1/2 price bar stuff. I like going to the bar down south better because the lady cook down there is fantastic at making whatever you ask for. She can put together some damn good stuff. Her jalapeno corn bread is so freaking good. My favorite is the ribs she makes.

The other bar it's the shredded pork burrito and green chile. Ohhhhh man it's good.

Well I bet that makes the afternoons interesting.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

I just work part-time, 5-6 hours a day and don't generally take a lunch. I keep some peanuts or something around for if I need to eat something while I'm there. Otherwise I just eat before I get there and then when I go home.

I like your plan for making soups ahead of time. Go to any website with homemade crockpot soup and get the recipes. Maybe after you freeze them, you can get a tiny one-person crockpot to keep at work, and heat them up in your office/cube for an hour or two before lunch, then you could skip the microwave completely.
