    From ESPN, 1 is best

    Overall Football Traits
Production 1 2004: TCU red-shirts Phillips. 2005-06: Started all 25 games accumulating 144 total tackles including 14.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks. 2007: Started all 13 games recording 87 tackles including 11 tackles-for-loss and two sacks, Also recorded two interceptions
Height-Weight-Speed 2 Good overall frame and top-end speed for the position
Durability 1 Durability is not a concern at this point
    Character 0 N/A
    Inside Linebacker specific Traits
Instincts/Recognition 2 Reacts to keys and locates the ball quickly. Plays with tremendous effort on every play and can always be seen around the ball.
Pursuit/Point of Attack 2 Stout and can jolt blockers upon contact. Can shed blocks quickly and get to the football. Takes good angles to the ball and does a nice job of wading through traffic. Limited in the open field and does not show sideline-to-sideline range.
Tackling 2 A strong explosive tackler. Does a nice job of breaking down and wrapping up. Has the ability to uncoil and deliver a big hit.
Pass Coverage 3 Shows adequate awareness in coverage. Looks up crossers well in zone coverage. Limited in man coverage, as he does not possesses the change of direction to stay with tight ends or backs in man coverage.
Pass Rusher 3 Times stunts extremely well and still able to get good penetration when picked up by a blocker. Possesses closing speed to get to quarterback
NFLDRAFTScout.com has him going in the 4th

Either way, depending on his combine/Senior Bowl...2nd, 3rd or 4th, probably someone that Shanahan would be interested in.
*The statements above are my opinions, unless they are links, because then they are links, which wouldn't make them my opinions, and I suppose stats aren't necessarily opinion, but they are certainly presented to support an opinion. Proceed accordingly.

McShay has him as a third rounder, either way he is a solid LB prospect that is sure to make his way up the boards in the offseason.

The 2008-09 bowl season has kicked off, and of the dozens of pro prospects playing in the first five games, no individual stood out more than Arizona QB Willie Tuitama and Colorado State RB Gartrell Johnson.

Tuitama finished his roller coaster of a career on a high note, passing for 325 yards and two scores in a 31-21 victory over BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl. The senior quarterback displayed good touch and accuracy throughout the evening, particularly on the deep ball. Leading the Wildcats to a pair of impressive victories in their final two outings -- Arizona beat Arizona State 31-10 in its regular-season finale -- certainly helps Tuitama's cause as a late-round prospect.

Johnson flat-out carried the Rams to victory just a few hours earlier. The 5-foot-11, 227-pound back rushed 27 times for 285 yards and two fourth-quarter scores in a 45-30 win against Fresno State. Granted, he isn't the first back to shred Fresno State's poor excuse for a run defense this season, but Johnson took it to a new level. His body control and competitiveness stood out as he consistently kept his balance and churned out yards after initial contact. Johnson also showed versatility as a receiver out of the backfield. He caught five passes for 90 yards, giving him 375 total yards on the afternoon.

Johnson's lack of elusiveness and breakaway speed will hurt him during the draft process, but he has proved he has enough quickness, power and run instincts -- in addition to valuable experience on special teams -- to warrant late-round or free-agent consideration.

Tuitama and Johnson won't be the only players to grab the attention of NFL scouts this bowl season, though. Here's a scouting primer for the remaining 29 games:

    Five most anticipated individual matchups
    • Alabama LOT Andre Smith vs. Utah DE Paul Kruger
    • Texas WR Quan Cosby vs. Ohio State CB Malcolm Jenkins
    • Cincinnati WR Marshwan Gilyard vs. Virginia Tech CB Victor Harris
    • Iowa RB Shonn Greene vs. South Carolina MLB Jasper Brinkley and OLB Eric Norwood
    • LSU LOT Ciron Black vs. Georgia Tech RDE Michael Johnson

Champs Sports Bowl today consists of a few players who could be very realistic targets for Denver.

    Florida State vs Wisconsin
    ESPN 4:30PM

    WISCONSIN PROSPECTS

    TE Travis Beckum
    FB Bill Rentmeester
    FB Chris Pressley
    OT Eric Vandenheuvel
    OG Kraig Urbik
    OG Andy Kemp
    DE Matt Shaughnessy
    OLB Jonathan Casillas
    OLB DeAndre Levy

Beckum is the best prospect of the bunch, but we don't need a TE. The ones to watch are the 2 OLBs. They are smaller, athletic and quick...like Shanny likes.

    FLORIDA STATE PROSPECTS

    RB Antone Smith
    WR Greg Carr
DE EVERETTE BROWN...maybe the top DE in the draft
    DT Paul Griffin
    MLB Derek Nicholson
    CB Tony carter
    S Myron Rolle

Clearly, Everette Brown is the crown jewel in this game, but Rolle is pretty highly touted at Safety...and we know he'll stay out of trouble off the field. Brown is a bit light, but "the experts" say he has the frame for more weight. If Denver drafted Brown and Rolle, 1 and 2, I wouldn't complain.

Rolle won the Rhodes Scholarship and will be studying at Oxford for at least a year. He won't be playing football next season.

Everette Brown looks one dimensional to me. He's a speed rusher who relies on the spin move a lot. I think he's too small to be a 4-3 DE in the NFL and hold up against the run. His best bet is as a 3-4 OLB who mainly rushes off the edge.

I know that Rolle will be gone for a year, but what is his draft status? Is his name completely removed or will a team who drafts him retain rights upon his return?

I'm not huge on Brown for that reason, but we NEED pass rushers, no matter what the size. It'd be nice to geta big one, but this isn't the draft for that...or so it seems. Given that we've been yoying w/ 3-4 and 4-4 schemes, anything may go when the 09 draft comes around.

    EMERALD BOWL
    California vs Miami (FL)
    ESPM 8PM

    MIAMI PROSPECTS

    OT Reggie Youngblood
    DE Eric Moncur
    DT Antonio Dixon
    CB Bruce Johnson
    CB Randy Phillips

    S Anthony Reddick

Not you typical Miami class, but the CBs are intriguing.

    CALIFORNIA PROSPECTS

    QB Nate Longshore
    FB Will TA'ufo'ou
    OT Mike Tepper
    C Alex Mack...#1 Center prospect
    OLB Anthony Felder
    OLB Zack Follett
    MLB Worrell Williams

Cal is definitely a team who has prospects that fit w/ Denver's needs. Their entire LB corps as well as Alex Mack at Center would make sense as Broncos in 2009. I like the OLB, Felder due to his size and athleticism. Williams at MLB is big, but may be too slow for a Shanny defense. Mack would finalize the oline for the next 6-8 years...assuming that the rookie from Bowling Green hasn't already got that role covered.

I'm not sure about Rolle's draft status. I think since he forgoed his final year of eligibility at FSU, a team can draft his rights, but if he doesn't sign with that team, his rights can be drafted again in the next draft. I think.

As for Brown, I agree with you on our need for pass rushers, I'm just not that big on Brown particularly. I'd rather have Michael Johnson who might be available, but he's even more of a boom or bust pick. I'm a bit wary of drafting DL in general in the 1st round because of past failures.

What is your opinion on the Illinois and Penn State DEs? I like em even though they aren't the typical dominant pass rushers, but are bigger, stronger and could still get ya 7-10 sacks.

    INDEPENDENCE BOWL
    Northern Illinois vs Louisiana Tech
    Dec 28th ESPN 8:15PM

    NORTHERN ILLINOIS PROSPECTS
    DE Larry English...maybe a 3-4 OLB

English has stud written all over him, but tips @ 255 and may be best suited for standing up in the NFL.

Louisiana Tech has no prospects of note...please update if ya know of any.

I haven't watched those guys play much, but I like Derek Walker as mid-late round pick. He is big enough at 6'3" 270 lbs. He tallied 6 sacks and 7 TFL's as well as 33 total tackles this season, which is decent production. NFLdraftscout has him rated as a 5th rounder, and I certainly wouldn't mind Denver taking him in the 5th round. I still have hopes for Crowder to be our starting power end, but a guy like Walker to push him and provide depth would be nice.

The other Illinois DE, Martrez Wilson, is a highly talented true sophomore who may be someone to watch out for in a year or two. He was a top high school recruit and is supposed to have outstanding athleticism. Other than that, I can't really say much about him, and he's not a factor in this year's draft anyway.

The Penn State DE's, Aaron Maybin and Maurice Evans, are both smaller, more speed rusher types from my understanding. Maybin has been mentioned on ESPN and other places as a potential top 15 pick if he comes out. However, at only 6'4" 242 lbs. he is vastly undersized as a 4-3 DE prospect. Like Brown, his best fit too is probably as a 3-4 rush OLB.

Maurice Evans is thicker at 6'2" 265 lbs., but is unlikely to come out this season after getting in trouble early in this season for marijuana posession and not having nearly the production of his 12 1/2 sack sophomore campaign. NFLdraftscout has him as a 4th round pick, so he should stay and return to his sophomore form. He has 1st day talent I think though.

I liked Will Davis from Illinois, but he seems to have disappeared of late. Has nice size and got to the QB in 2007. Walker is a name I'd like to see called on day 2.

I'm going to try and focus on Everette Brown in the game today and see how he does. Wisconsin will probably run the ball a lot, probably to his side too, so this will be a good test.

They will hold his rights for year were he either signs or return to the draft pool. If not drafted the second time he would Rookie FA.

Worrell Williams is DJ little brother, has decent speed for a guy at 240 pounds. He expect will be sitting there in 3rd/4th round.
