He obviously is going to have to win games, but I sure like the way he treats his guys and carries himself.

He's a player's coach that's for sure, which is not surprising after all he's from Fassel's coaching tree like Sean Payton and Eric Studesville, all of them seem to have a rapport with the players they coach.

Well, the prior regime had a level of rapport with certain players, provided of course that they were one of the coach's chair-sniffers or lickspittles.

And I wouldn't say he is a players coach per say. He doesn't seem to coddle his guys. But he doesn't roast or humiliate them in public, and treats them like men.

He also speaks in cliche terms to the media, but does it without being a dick.

At the risk of being flamed, I liked McDaniels enthusiasm and energy on the sidelines and in a lot of his interviews/pressers. I actually miss that.

I would say he had passion for the game -- a love of the game, if you will.

I dont think you will get flamed for that. But his energy and firery personality just wasnt enough and was hollow in the end when he couldnt put together wins. The sad thing for McD is for some of the good things he was able to do he followed it up with disaster.

Coaching at any level is about a lot more than x's and o's. Josh never got that

he acts like a professional, in other words. . . .

he acts like he's been there before. . .
“When we do find that guy, we’ve got to have the continuity on the offensive side to where we can train him and develop him and get him there. This is our fourth offense in probably three or four years. Quarterbacks need to be developed. You don’t find one ready-made. We got to have a solid system in place for when we do go after whatever guy it may be, a young guy or a trade or whatnot.”

This little zinger from Fox was pretty funny.

"But I was ready to get back in coaching because the process in Carolina — everybody thinks it was a sudden, one-year deal — but the process had been going on since the end of the '08 season. And I was anxious to get back into a situation where you could be competitive."
